To (J1/. whom tz' may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN MEUTE, Jr., a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Moon Iun, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVire-I'Iangers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
rIhis invention relates to wire hangers particularly designed for suspending trolley wires and electric conductors in connection with industrial electric railways, as the railway of a mine.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a hanger that can be easily and quickly placed in position to support a trolley wire.
Another object of the invention is to furnish a hanger with novel means for holding a wire without the use of tie-wires or similar detachable devices.
A further object of the invention is to provide a trolley hanger that is strong and durable, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to install, and highly eflicient for the purposes for which it is intended.
l/Vith these and such other objects in view as may hereinafter appear the invention consists of the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that the structural elements thereof are susceptible to such changes as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a cross sectional view of the entry of a mine showing the hanger in position. Fig. 2 is a plan of a detached hanger. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the same, and Fig. 4 is a side elevation of a detached hanger.

1 denotes an inverted U-shaped support or yoke having the ends thereof bent to pro vide oppositely disposed face plates 2 having apertures 3, whereby it can be secured to a beam or other support 4 by bolts 5, nuts 6, or other fastening means, the beam 4 being shown as located within the entry 7 of a mine. The support 1 is made of a single piece of material and is provided with a cent-ral opening 8, said opening having the walls thereof bent downwardly to provide an annular tapering seat 9 for a washer 10 of insulation, as hard rubber, porcelain, glass, or asbestos.
11 denotes a pin having the upper end thereof lnolded,e1nbedded, or otherwise secured in the washer 10 and the upper end of the pin is covered by asbestos or a similar non-conductive material 12. The lower end of the pin has a head 12a to which is con nected by a coupling or a union 12c the exteriorly threaded head 12b of a bolt 12X. The lower portion of the bolt 12X is cut-away to provide a flat shoulder' 13, a beveled shoulder 14, and a beveled portion 14a which is positioned to one side of the plane in which A the shoulder 14 extends. The lower end of the bolt 14X is flattened and rounded as well as flared and extended longitudinally thereby providing a relatively thin resilient rounded 'lower portion 15, as best shown in Fig. 4. The lower end 15 of the bolt 12X provides a longitudinally-extending concave seat for a wire 16. Integral with the round ed end 15 of the bolt 12X is a clamping member having an enlarged lower portion 17 and a reduced upper portion. The clamping member 17 when in position with respect to the bolt 12X is flush with said bolt and has its inner face provided with a beveled shoulder 14c with which engages the shoulder 14, a flattened portion 141 abutting against the fiat shoulder 13, and a beveled portion 14e which extends in an opposite direction with respect to and opposes the beveled portion 14a. The bolt 12X is made of malleable material, whereby when the enlarged portion 17 is out of engagement with the shoulder 14, the trolley wire 16 can be easily and Y quickly sprung into its seat and the enlarged portion 17 returned to its normal position.
As a safety factor tending to prevent displacement of the wire 16, I provide the lower end of the bolt and the clamping member with registering openings 18 adapted to receive the shank 19 of a bolt, said shank having a head 20 and a detachable nut 21.
What `I claim, is:
A wire hanger adapted for mining installations, comprising a bracket adapted to be secured to a support, said bracket having an opening with a vert-ical axis and flared upwardly to form a seat, an insulating bush ing extending through the opening' and having its periphery complemental to and loosely seated on said seat, a headed pin extending through and supported by said bushing, said pin having its lower end formed with a smooth collar, a threaded sleeve carried by the pin and adapted to project o-Ver said collar, and a supporting member for the Wire, said member having a threaded upper end adapted t0 be remov- V ably engaged by the sleeve and being :formed Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, 'by addressing the Commissioner of Patents.
