ATTDQNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
ABRAHAM ALEXANDER, or may, NEW max.
. LUGGAGE-TRUCK.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Aerial-1AM ALEXANDER, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Troy, countyof Renssel-aenand State of 5 New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Luggage-Trucks, of
which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to such improvem'ents and consists ofthe novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and subsequently claimed. Referer may be had to the accompanying drawi. gs, and the reference characters marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Similar characters refer-to similar parts in the several figures therein. 1
Figure 1 of the drawings is a View in side elevation of a traveling-case strapped upon my improved luggage-truck, showing the folding foot extended to support the truck and its load in upright position, and showing one of the extensible legs of the truck in vertical section. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the. truck with one of. the straps removed, and the other strap partly broken away. Fig. 3 is cross-section of the same taken on the broken line 33 in Fig. I, viewed in the direction of the arrow. I
The principal object of the invention is to provide for luggage ordinarily carried by hand, a simple truck whereby articles of different sizes and of considerable weight can be conveniently rolled along a floor or sidewalk, guided and controlled by the operator.
Referring to the drawings wherein the invention is shown .in preferred form, 1, represents the platform of my improved truck, which is adapted to support a packing-ease, 2, or the like, strapped upon 'saidplatform by means of a plurality of straps, 3, each of which is threaded through a pair of slots, 4, in the platform-plate, said straps being adapted in the usual manner to embrace and hold articles of dilferent sizes, while the. top stretch of the strap affords a grasp for the hand of the operator in guiding and controlling'the movementsof the truck.
Fixed to the underside of the platform plate, 1, is a substantially U-shaped pldte,
5, the arms, 6, of which extend divergently.
downward and are provided with a plurality of bolt-apertures 7 An extension-leg 8, similarly provided with a plurality of bolt-apertures, 9, is mounted upon each of Specification of Letters Patent.
- Application filed October 2, 1911. Serial No. 652,277.
Patented Oct. 29, 1912-.
the arms, 6, said eXtension-leg being secured to the arm in a selected one of the various posltions in which sa1d leg can-be applied to the arm, with certain of the bolt-apertures,
9, registering with certain of the bolt-apertures, 7, to-receive the bolts, 10, which are secured in position by means of thumb-nuts 11. bolt-apertures in the arm, 6, and leg, 8, said leg can be more or less extended to support the truck-platform, 1, at different-heights to accommodate it to articles of different sizes, or to accommodate it for convenient use by persons of different heights. Upon the outer end of each leg, 8, is a foot, 13,
By'bringing into alinement difi'erent having a roller, 1 1, mounted thereupon upon a horizontal axis; The foot, 13, is mounted upon the leg, 8, to rotate upon a substantially vertical axis thus forming a caster.
In using the device the luggage article is strapped upon the truck-platform, and the legs, 8, are more or less extended in accordance with the size of the package and the height of the operator, and the truck andits load are propelled along the fioor or sidewalk by the hand of the operator which grasps the upper stretch of one of the straps 3. I have also shown the truck provided with a folding-foot, 15, whereby the truck and its load can be supported in upright position without the aid of the operator. Said foot is preferably made of wire in the form shown in Fig. 3. with its outer end of sufficient width to afford a stable support, the branches of the wire being bent or offset inward to bring them within the lateral dimensions of the legs, 8, whereby the offset;- portions, 16, of the wire are adapted to bear upon the leg, 8, to assist in supporting the folding-foot, 15, in its extended position. The branches of the wire are formed with spring-coils, 17, which embrace .a pivot-pin, 18, mounted in ears or lugs, 19, formed on the leg, 8, the ends, 20, of the wire being extended to bear. upon said leg to render said springs, 17, effective. "The springs, 17, actto extend. the foot.
To fold the footjt is swung by hand from =tlie"position shonlpbysolid lines back upon ieatd, by dotted lines in ferent sizes can be secured upon said platform: extensible le s for su ).)O1tll1' said a: a platform; and casters upon the outer ends of the respective extensible legs.
} 2. In a luggagetruck, and in combination. a platform; means for securing articles ot j difierent sizes upon said platform; a pair of arms extending downward from said platform-provided with a plurality of bolt-apertures; extension-leg members provided with 3. In a luggage-truck, and in combination, 1
a platform; straps whereby articles of different sizes can be secured upon said platlforui; extensible legs for supporting said platform; casters upon the outer ends oi the .1
respective extensible legs; and a folding-foot mounted upon the extensible member of one of said legs adapted when said (foot is extended to support the. truck and its load in uprightposition.
-:l-. In a luggage-truck, and in ion'ibinatioii, an extensible leg for the truck: a roller upon j the outer end of an extensible member of i said leg; :1 folding-toot formed of wire having ofl'set portions adapted to bear upon the I extensible member when the foot is extended. having its ends adapted to bear upon said extensible member. and having;- spring-coils: a pivot-pin mounted upon said extensible member and embraced by said spring-coils; and locking-nieehanisiu mounted upon said jOXtQliSllilO member adapted to engage and bolt-apertures; bolt-connections between hold said foot in 'l'olded position.
in testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 27th day ot' September,
; ABRAHAM ALEXANDER.
