LQQTL Specication of Letters Patent.
Application led March 25, 1911.
Patented Oct. 2S, l S i .2. Serial No. 616,838.
To all whom it may concern: l
Be it known that I$7 PHILIPP SCHNEIDER, a citizen of the United. States, residin at St. Charles, in the county of St. Charles and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Boot-Cleaners, of .which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to boot cleaners and has for an object to provide a cleaner wherein the dirt will be held against falling over the sides of the receiving pan when the foot is rubbed across the mat or grat-ing of the cleaner.
In the drawing,
veniently lifted from the pan or tray l. The intermediate bars extend upwardly and forwardly at an angle to the bottom of the tray so as to present side inclined surfaces l and upper relatively thin and sharp scraping surfaces l1, the latter being suitably spaced apart to permit of the downward passage of the dirt therethrough when the shoe is brought in scraping Contact with side Walls of the grate extend beyond the end bars 7 thereof and the latter fit between the portions 4. This spaces the side Walls of the grate from the side walls of the tray. The extension of the side walls of the grate beyond the end bars Yof the grate spaces lthe scraping portions forming a portion of this reference indicate similar parts in the several views z-li`igure l is a plan view of the mat. 2 is a section therethrough on line 2-2 of Fig. l. Fig.' .f3 is a side view of a portion of the grate showing a slightly modified form of the same. F ig. 4i is a section on line 4.-- 4 oit' Fig. 1.
The mat embodies a rectangular tray member l which is formed preferably of constructed to provide spaced parallel side walls 2 and spaced end walls 3. The end portions of the side Walls bent inwardly at el, to form spacers for a purpose to be hereinafter described, said portions being soldered or otherwise suitably secured to the inner surface of the end walls.
rec angular grate or scraping membei is preferably formed of sheet material stamped to form depending supporting walls which are connected together by intermediate bars 6 and end bars 7. The end bars are each formed with an upwardly extending lifting and scraping portion 8 having therein an opening 9 for the reception of the hand, whereby the grate can be conof the above it will be readily understood that by spacing the sides and ends of the grate from the corresponding' portions of the tray I guard against the dirt falling over the sides of the mat during the act of scraping the foot across the grate.
A. boot cleaner comprising a pan having parallel side walls and parallel end walls, the side Walls having their ends bent-.inwardly and engaged against the inner sides of said end walls to form spacing elements, and a scraping grate removably mounted in the pan, and including' parallel sides which are disposed inwardly of said spacing elements to be held thereby in spaced relation to the parallel walls of the pan.
