INVENTOB C, amor-26461919 1, To all whom it may concern:
. UNITED srn'rus .PATENT onirica.
omnes LmonEAUxforicaLEsToN, was@ vgyzeeINIA.;
invented certain new and useful Improvements in Valves, ffwhich-"thelfollowing'is a specification, referenceI beingl had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to valves, particularly designed for use in the oil well 'fields for closing the upper end of a well casing or tube whereby gas or o'il cannot escape from the casing or tube until proper connections have been made for storing the liberated -product of nature.
The primary object of my invention is to' provide a valve body th t can be easily and quickly mounted upon t: eupper end of the casing or tube said casing or tube, the valve body inclosing flap valves that can be simultaneously operated and locked in adjusted position.
A further object of this invention is'to` provide a valve of the above type that is non-leakable,l consisting of comparatively l Fig; 2 is a vertical sectional view of the,4
few parts inexpensive to manufacture and highly eicient for the purposes for' which it is intended.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides lin the novel construction, combination and arrangement of arts to be hereinafter specifically describe v*and then claimed.
Reference will now ing, wherein Figure 1 is a side befhad to the drawelevation of the valve,
same, Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the valve, Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view of the same, and Fig. 5 is a perspective view-of a detached flap valve.
Further describing my invention with reference to the drawing wherein like numerals denote corres dnding parts 1 denotes a hollow valve bo y oval in elevation and circular in plan, said valvebody having a depending central cylindrical coupling member 2 whereby the valve body can be mounted upon a tube or casing. The top of the valve body has'af-clentral cylindrical outlet sleeve 3 provided with an annular interior groove 4 for packing 5. A closure 6 can be placed upon the packing 5 and secured thereto by set screws 7 whereby the outlet sleeve 3 will be close The edges of the closure 6 for controlling the outlet of.

The ports 9' permit of the contents ofthe vvalve body being drawn oiff Oppositely' disposed-sides* of the valve body 1-y are provided with Ainwardly pro]- ect' ing bosses 11 and 12 the former providing Y j ifbeveldfas at and: these edges are enu Be it known that IJ v'CHARLEs"'lniiii'onnAUX, i a citizen of the'United St-atesof America, v residing at Charleston', inV the county of,4 Kanawha and State of West Virginia, have!` stuliing'boxes 13 to accommodate packing 14 -v and glands 15. -Extending through'` the glands 15 and the bosses 11 and 12 are rock shafts 16 that are arranged in parallelism with the outer ends t-hereofV projecting from the glands 15 Shanks 17. v.
Mounted upon the rock shafts 16 are the barrels 18 of semicylindrical flap valves 19,.
and having rectangular A 75 said valves having the edges thereof beveled,
as at 20 to form a positive connection when said valves areclosed and engage the inner end of the outlet sleeve 3.
Mounted upon. the outer ends of 'the rock'- shafts 16 are Vsectors gears 21 that mesh with each other whereby said rock' shaftsl can be rotated in unison one-quarter of a revolution. Detachably mounted upon the Shanks 17 of the shafts 16 is a bar 22 and said Shanks are provided with openings to accommodate-'- locks or seals 23 employed to prevent the removal of the bar 22 by unauthorized persons. The bar 22 can be usedupon one ofthe shafts as a lever for rocking both of said shafts,
either to open' or close the flap valves 19.
It is thought that the operation and util- I ity of a valve in accordance with this invention will be ap arentwitho141t,fu rther de ile in the drawing. there is l preferred embodiment of the scription and w illustrated a A invention, it 1s to be understood that the structural elements are susceptible 4to-such` changes, as in the size, of assemblage, as fall within the scope the appended claims.
What I claim is 1, A valve of the type described comprising a hollow body having a depending coupling member, an outlet sleeve in communi'- cation with the top 'of the body, a closure shape' and manner detachably mounted in the outer end of said sleeve, rock shafts supported by the opposite sides of said body, flap valves mou-f ated upon said shafts and cooperating in closing the.
inner end of said outlet sleeve, and means carried by said shafts whereby said shafts can 'be rocked in unison to open and close said valves.
2. A valve of the t e described comprising a hollow body having a 'depending couplng member, an outlet -sleeve in communication with the to of the body, a closure detacliably mounte in the outer. endy of said sleeve', rock shafts supported by the opposite sides of said body, flap valves mounted upon said shafts and coperating in closing the nner'end of said outer s1eeve,'means car- C'opies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each,
ried by said shafts whereby said shafts can be rocked in unison to open and close said 15 valves, said means including sector gears, and a bar detachably mounted upon the ends of said shafts adjacent to said sector gears. 4
In testimony whereof I aix my signature, 2o inthe presenceof two, Witnesses.
