To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL FREDERICK WOL- DAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas- Heaters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to gas heaters and has for its object the production of a gas heater which may be attached to the ordinary gas bracket.
Another object of this invention is the production of means for facilitating the radiation of the heat from the burner by providing a comparatively large heating surface.
Other objects and advantages of the present device will appear throughout the following specification.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a transverse section of the heating drum showing the upper disk removed therefrom. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the heater. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the spacing blades or webs of the heating drum. Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a detail'perspective of the burner.
Referring to the drawings by numerals 1 designates the bracket to which is attached the burner 2 which burner comprises a bracket engaging sleeve 3' having extending upwardly therefrom a plurality of curved arms 4. The upper ends of the curved arms 4 support a circular tube 5 which is perforated upon the upper edge as at 6, thereby constituting the burning surface of the burner. The vertical rod 7 is supported between the arms 4 and extends upwardly from the center ofthe burner tube. The upper end of the rod 7 is threaded and passes through the center of the upper disk 8 of the heating drum. The upper disk 8 is locked in this position by means of a pair of nuts 9 which nuts are threaded upon the rod 7. The disk 8 is dome-shaped and is lined upon its inner side with a sheet of asbestos 10. The reinforcing plate 11 is secured to the underside of the disk 8 for strengthening the disk at a central point where it is connected to the supporting rod 7. An auxiliary disk 12 is carried below the upper disk 8 and is connected to the upper disk by means of a plurality of curved webs 13. .The lower disk 12 is provided with a central aperture 14 and the disk 12 is also lined with a sheet of asbestos 15. A plurality 0f inwardly extending lips 16 are carried by the edge of the opening 14 and are bent so as to support the edge of the asbestos abutting the edge of the aperture 14. The webs 13 above described are provided with a plurality of lugs 17 upon the upper and lower edges thereof which lugs pass through the upper disk 8 and lower disk 12, as illustrated in Fig. 4 and are bent backwardly upon the disk as illustrated in Fig. 4 thereby firmly holding the disks 8 and 12 in their relative position. From the foregoing description it will be obvious that an efficient burner has been produced which may be readily detached from or attached to the ordinary gas burner, and may be readily taken apart. When taking the device apart the upper disk 8 is detached from the rod 7 by removing the nuts 9 therefrom.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
A device of the class described comprisin a burner, supporting means carried by said burner, a heating drum carried by said supporting means and comprising a domeshaped upper disk, a sloping auxiliary disk, said auxiliary disk being provided with a central opening, sheets of asbestos on the lower sides of said disks, spacing webs positioned between said disks and provided with lugs adapted to pass therethrough and through said sheets of asbestos and to be bent in opposite directions to hold said disks, sheets of asbestos, and spacing webs in their operative position.
