aient @Hire BENNING- ROWELL, OF BYERSVILLE,
NEW YORK.,
Letters PatcntiNo. 104,065, dated June 7, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN I 'ENCES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom 'it may concern: A
VBe it known that I, Bnxsme RozvnLp, of Byersville, in the county ot' Livingston and State of New York, have invented a new and useful I mprovement ing upper and lower cross-bars, for the support of the parallel rails, and said panels being connected at their ends by perpendicular rods passing through said rails and between the crossbars of the trusses.
In the drawinga a are the parallel rails, and b the slatsaffixed by nails to the rails lin the form-of lattice-work.
The sustaining trusses A are each formed of two side pieces c c, inclined toward each other at their tops, the latter being far enough apart to admit the upper rails between them, which rails, both upper and lower, rest ou upper and lower pairs of cross-bars e' c, alixed to each side of the posts c.
Each pair of cross-bars supports the ends of two `rails, and perpendicular rods, d, passing between each pair of cross-bars, 'connect the ends of the panels, each rod d passing through four rails.
The lower cross-bars c" are mortised out on their upper edges to receive the lower rails.
Those of the slats b, next the trusses at each end of' each'panel, are perpendicular, and the others are inclined and crossed, as show'n.
This fence is easily put up, easily taken down, and easily transported.
I am aware that every feature of my invention sep, l arately considered is not new, and I therefore do not wish to be understood as claiming any of them alone;
but having fully described my invention,
v What I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the rails a, slats Ib, side pieces c, cross-bars e' c", and connecting-rods d, all constructed and arranged in the manner'aud foi thc purpose set forth.V
' BENNING ROWELL.
