Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 8, 1912.
Application filed November 1, 1911. Serial No. 658,036.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM E. Pomonx TER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sedalia, in the county of Pettis and State 5 of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Pile-Truss, of which the following is a specifieation.
The present invention relates to improvements in pile trusses or dilators, the primary invention being the provision of a truss or dilator made of a flexible and substantial material adapted to be inserted and worn in the rectum to hold the parts of the rectum in place and prevent protrusion 15 and to prevent constipation.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a truss or dilator made in the form of aplurality of truncated portions, or a truncated tubular member having a pluincreased in diameter and stepped portions, the apex thereof being cupped to receive amedicament, while the exterior surface is provided with a plurality of channels leading to the interior bore of the device near the base thereof, to permit the escape of accumulated gases in the intestines, thus relieving the rectum of weight which prevails in all cases of piles.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that 5 changes in the precise embodiment of invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a side ele- 40 vation of the complete truss Or dilator taken from one gas passage side thereof. Fig. 2 is a similar view taken at right angle thereto. Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the truss or dilator.
Referring to the drawings, the dilator or truss, which is made integrally and of some flexible and suitable material, as rubber, consists of a truncated tubular member A, having the rounded edge reduced upper end 1,
having the medicament holding cup or bore 2, the aperture 3 leading to the reduced end of the enlarged conical bore 4, of the member, thus providing a space or cup to receive the salve or other medicament to be applied to the parts, and also a fastening means for the cord or string 5, which passes through the bore 4 and aperture 3, the knot 6, preventing the cord from slipping therethrough, and thus providing .a means for the ready withdrawal of the member A from the rectum when desired. The cord or string 5 is of sufficient length to normally protrude below the base 12 of the member and be in ready access for pulling the truss or dilator from the rectum.
The outer surface of the dilator or truss, is provided with the reduced slightly inwardly curved portion 7, the rounded shouldered portion 8, the gradually increased in diameter and inwardly curved portion 9, the gradually increased in diameter rounded shouldered portion 10, and the gradually increased in diameter inwardly curved portion 11, terminating in the base rim 12.
WVhen the truss or dilator is in use the cup 2 is filled with the medicament, and the device inserted in to the rectum small end first. The reduced portion 7, when the truss or dilator is in place receives the upper tension of the pile district of the rectum, while the portions 8, 9, 10 and 11, form a resisting gradually increased in size means to resist and prevent the protrusion of the parts, the lower tension of the pile district being below the rim or base 12, thus holding the device to prevent the protrusion of the parts and at the same time being itself held by frictional engagement by the parts, well within the rectum.
In order to relieve the weight, which prevails in all cases of piles, and to permit the escape of gases from the intestines through the rectum, and yet not disturb the dilator or truss, oppositely disposed channels 13 and 14, are formed in the portions 8, 9, 10 and 11, of the member, and each terminate in the opening 15, which as shown leads from the exterior of the member to the lower end of the conical bore 4.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, it is evident that a truss or dilator constructed according to this invention is in reality an automatic pile truss or dilator, in that it is properly held by the parts within the rectum and also itself holds the parts against protrusion, the gas escape openings 15, permitting the emission of gases from the intestines Without dislodging the truss or dilator, and thus relieves the parts of the Weight or pressure; due to the accumulation of the gases, not
permitted to escape.
What is claimed is:
1. A rectum dilator or truss madein t-he form of a truncated cone, the outer surface of Which is composed of a plurality of alternating varying diametered circumferential shoulders and grooves, and provided With a longitudinal groove termlnatlng 1n an" aperture through the base of the cone.
' 2. A rectum dilator or truss made in the form of a truncated cone, the outer surface of Which is composed of a plurality of alterof which is composed of a plurality ofalter}- nating varying diametered circumferential shoulders and grooves, and provided With dlametrlcally disposed longitudinal grooves,
each of Which terminates in an aperture through the base of the cone.
4. A rectum dilator,,or truss made in theform of a truncated cone, the outer surface of which is composed of a plurality of alter-g nating varying diametered circumferential shoulders and grooves, and provided with provided with a bore into Which.
diametrically disposed longitudinal grooves, each of Which terminates in an aperture through the base of the cone, said base'being provided With a bore into Which said aperture leads.
'5. A rectum dilatbr or truss made in the form of a truncated conical member having two oppositely disposed conical bores in communication With each other and forming a bore the full length of the member, a cord passing through the bores and secured in one to form a means to Withdraw the mem her from the rectum, the surface of the member being provided With a plurality of shoule dered portions to be engaged by the Walls of the rectum.
6. A rectum dilator or truss made'in the form of a truncated conical .member provided With tWo oppositely disposed and communicating conical bores, the one in the apex being a medicament receiving bore, and the outer surface of the member having rectum engaging projections to prevent the parts from protruding and to cause the parts to hold the member Within the rectum.
