Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 28, 1911. Serial No. 651,851.
To all whom it may concern:
7 Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. RARnY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Burlington, in the county of Skagit and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Squares, of which the 'followmg 1s a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in a square and bevel.
The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter fully de scrlbed and pointed out in the claims.
2o by blocks 3 which are inserted therebetween In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in elevation; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view through the bar; find Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view of the A, represents the bar, which consists of two members, 1 and 2, which are held apart at their ends and fastened thereto and at their center by a head or block 4. Side members 5, 5, and a central member 6, are
pivotally connected together by a pin 7, the
three members being connected together at one end, and the three ends passing through I the bar A, the side members 5 extendin through horizontal elongated slots 8, an being held at various angles or adjustments 'by means of thumb screws 9, which pass through elongated slots 10 which are formed vertically through the bar. These thumb screws also pass through elongated slots 11 in the side members 5. The central member 6 slides through a slot 12 formed in the head or block 4, and is held at difierent angles with respect to the bar, b means of a thumb through the elongated slot 14 in the central member. Thumb screws 9 and 13 hold the several members in their various adjusted positions. The sides members 5 are capable screw 13, which passes t rough the bar and of being shifted to different angles with respect to the bar A, but the central member 6 is always maintained in a position at ri ht angles to-the bar A in any of the sliding movements of the bar A.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A square comprising a central and side members ,pivotally connected together at a common point, a bar slidably connected to said members, the central member always maintained in a osition at right angles to 'the bar in its sli ing movement, each of the members provided with slots, and independent means connecting each side member and the central member to the bar and operating in the slots for bringing about the various adjustments, said means permitting the side members to be adjusted to various angles in-' dependently of each other.
2. A square comprisinga central and side members pivotally connected at a common point, a bar having elongated slots through which the side members extend, and a slot at ri ht angles to the length thereof through whic the central member extends, said bar -slidable upon said members, and independent means for connecting said members to the bar for holding the members in their various adjustments, the central member maintained in a position at right angles to the bar in all movements of the bar said means ermitting the side members to be adjusted to various angles independently of each other.
