PORTABLE OVEN.
Application filed January 10, 1912.
To all whom 2'2. may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER E. HUENE- FELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Ovens; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,-c1ear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in portable ovens, and more particularly to ovens of the knock-down type.
One object of my present invention is to construct the oven in such manner as to simplify the assembling or setting up of the same.
A further object is to so construct a knockdown oven as to reduce to a minimum, the number of separate parts to be handled in assembling the oven.
A further object is to so construct a knockdown oven that the edges to be interlocked will be protected from damage in transit when the oven is in knock-down condition,
and so that no error can occur in properly assembling the parts.
With these objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 is a face view of an oven embodying my improvements; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view; Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional View; Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary view showing connections between the top 4 and the top lining sheet 10; Fig. 6 is a similar view showing manner of connecting an end 3 and end lining sheet 25; Fig. 7 is a similar view showing portions of back 1 and back lining sheet '16, and Fig. 8 is a view of one corner of bottom 5.
The oven comprises a back 1; a front 2; ends 3, 3; a top 4, and a bottom 5.
The top 4 is provided at its front and back edges with depending flanges 6 and the lower edges of these flanges are lip-turned to form open heads 7. Each end of the top 4 is provided with a depending flange 8, the lower edge of which is turned inwardly and upwardly as at 9 and cooperates with the flange 8 to form a comparatively deep openbead. face of the top 4 is a lining sheet 10,'the latter being spaced from the top 4 by means of flanges 11 at the ends of said lining sheet and flanges 12 at the front and back edges thereof. The metal of the lining sheet 10 is extended laterally from the upper edges of the flanges 11 to form flanges 13 and from the outer edges of the latter, flanges M depend and are inclosed in the elongated open beads formed by the flanges 89 of the top 4. The top lining, sheet is thus permanently connected with the top 4 of the oven.
The back 1 is provided at its upper edge with an open head 15 to interlock with the open head 7 at the back edge of the top 4. A back lining sheet 16 is provided at its upper and lower edges with flanges 17 which space said'back lining sheet from the back 1. The lining sheet 16 is also provided at its ends with flanges .18 and at the edge of each of these flanges, a lateral flange 19 is provided. These lateral flanges 19 of the lining sheet 16 rest against the inner face of the back 1 near the ends of the latter and are permanently secured thereto by rivets. A sheet 16* of asbestos is secured to the back of the back lining sheet 16.
The respective ends of the back 1 are bent to form outwardly projecting, open beads 20 for the reception of open beads 21 formed at the free edges of flanges 22 projecting inwardly from the back vertical edges of the ends 3 of the oven. The ends 3 and back 1 are thus interlocked together. At the upper and lower ends of each end 3 of the oven,
the metal is folded upon itself to form flanges 23 which lie parallel with the inner faces of said ends 3 and serve to receive flanges A4 of end linings 25,-said end linings being spaced from the ends 3 by means of flanges26 connecting said end linings with the flanges 24.
The front 2 isprovided at its upper edge with an open bead 2T tointerlock with the front head 7 of the top 4. The front 2 is provided with a. large opening which is normally closed by means of a hinged door 28, which may be provided with a transparent panel 29.
The bottom 5 of the oven is provided at its edges with depending flanges 29 having at their lower edges, open beads 30 which receive the lower edges of the front, back, and ends of the oven,-the depending flanges 29 of said bottom lying substantially parallel with the inner faces of said parts of the oven and under the lining sheets of the vof the oven, these bolts may be passed through the" flanges 24 of the end lining sheets. a
The bottom 5 is provided with the usual opening and above this opening, a suitable deflector may be located, and the end lining sheets may be made with elongated ribs or flanges 32 for supporting said deflector and also for supporting shelves.
It will be observed that the lining sheets are permanently attached to the parts of the oven for which each is intended, so that in assembling the oven there will be no danger of confusion and therefore, annoyances which have heretofore been experienced will be avoided.
' Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is: y
1. A knockdown portable oven, comprising oven top, back, front, and ends, lining sheets permanently secured to the oven ends and back, the vertical edges of the oven ends having direct interlocking connection with adjacent edges of the oven front and back, and the top having direct interlocking connection with the iront and back, said top having'depending flanges at its ends, pro vided with overturned edges, a top lining sheet provided at its ends with flanges provided with lateral extensions and with flanges at the edges of said lateral extensions, said last-mentioned flanges lying parallel with the depending flanges at the ends of the oven top and permanently held by the overturned edges of said depending flanges, and an oven ottom removably secured in place.
2. A knockdown portable oven, comprising a back having open beads at its vertical edges, a back lining sheet having flanges at its ends permanently secured to said back. ends, each having front and back open heads at its respective vertical edges, the back open beads of the oven ends having direct removable interlocking connection with the open heads at the ends of the oven back, end lining sheets having flanges at the top and bottom, and said oven ends having flanges engaging said flanges of the end lining sheets and permanently holding the latter in place,an oven top, a top lining sheet per manently secured at its ends thereto, an oven front having removable interlocking connection withthe oven top, and an oven bottom removably secured to the oven ends, -front and back.
