KNOCKDOWN OVEN.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IVALTER E. HUENE- FELD, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented oertain new and useful Improvements in Knockdown Ovens; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in portable ovens and more particularly to those of the knock-down or collapsible type,-the object of the invention being to provide a knock-down oven which can be easily and quickly assembled and which, when assembled, shall be rigid and capable of adequately withstanding the strain and usage to which it may be subjected.
With this object in View, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out .in the claims.
I11 the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 is a perspective view of portions of the oven, illustrating the manner of assembling the top and ends; Fig. 2 is a separate view of the back; Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the top and ends inverted and illustrating the manner of placing the back in position; Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the door and the part to which it is attached, inverted; Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional view of the completed oven; Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional view of the same; Fig. 7 is a horizontal sectional view on the line w% of Fig. 5; Fig. 8 is an enlarged view showing one of the front corners; and Fig. 9 is a front view with the door and its supporting means removed.
1 represents the top sheet or member of the oven and is provided at its respective ends with hook-flanges 2 to interlock with similar flanges 3 at the upper edges of the end sheets or members 4. The top member 1 is provided at its back edge with'a comparatively shallow depending flange 5 and at its front edge with a depending flange 6 which forms a portion of the front of the oven. At its free edge, the flange 6 is bent inwardly and upwardly to form an elongated lip or bead 7, the ends of which con stitute lugs 8 projecting beyond the beveled ends 9 of said front flange 6. sheets or members 4 are provided at their front edges with inwardly projecting flanges 10 which form portions of the oven front and the upper ends of these flanges are beveled. In assembling the top and end members, the hook-flange 3 of an end member is slid into interlocking engagement with the hook-flange 2 of the top member, and in order that the upper end of flange 10 of the end member can be moved inwardly past the end of flange 6 of the top member 1, the end member 4 will be disposed as shown at the left-hand side of Fig. 1 while it is being applied to the top member. After the hook flanges 23 of the end and top members are in engagement from end to end, the end member will be brought to a position at rightangles to the top member as shown at the right hand side of Fig. 1, when the end of flange 6 will project slightly beyond the beveled upper end ofethe flange 10 on the adjacent end member 4 so that the upper ends of the flanges 10 of the end members will become disposed between the flange 6 and the lugs 8 projecting therefrom (see Fig. 8). In this manner, the front flanges of the top and end members will be interlocked. The rear edges of the end members 4 are bent outwardly to form hookflanges 11 for the reception of hookor member 13. After the end members 4 shall have been attached to the top member 1, the structure will be inverted, as shown in Fig. 3, when the back member will be slid into position, with the hook-flanges 11-12 interlocked. When in position, the upper edge 'of the back member will be disposed inside the back flange 5 of the top 1, said flange serving to prevent buckling of the back 13; The upper edge of the back 13 is further stiffened by an inwardly and upwardly projecting flange 14, but this flange also performs an additional function, as hereinafter explained. The back member 13 is provided at its lower edge with an inwardly projecting flange 15 and the ends 4 are similarly provided with inwardly projecting flanges 16, said flanges 1516 forming portions of the oven bottom and these flanges are preferably secured together at their overlapping ends, by means of bolts 17, although the use of these bolts is not absolutely essential.
A top lining sheet 18 is disposed under the tdp 1, and provided at its edges with upturned flanges 19 which serve to space said lining sheet from the top 1. The front edge of the top lining is supported on the lip or head 7 and the flange 19 at the back edge of said top lining sheet enters the hookflange 14 of the back member 13. A back and ends of the oven. The back lining thus not only supports the back portion of the top lining, but, being disposed between said top lining and the bottom flanges 16 of the ends 4:, locks the parts of the oven together without depending upon the use of bolts for this purpose.
The lower portion of the oven front consists of a narrow sheet or strip 22 provided at its ends with lips to engage the ends 4, and at its lower edge, this front sheet or strip is provided with a flange 23 which forms a portion of the oven bottom. The sheet or strip 22 is secured to the front flanges 10 of the ends 4 by means of bolts 24'. and the flange 23 is secured to the bottom flanges 16 of the ends 4 by means of bolts 25. A suitable door 26 is hinged to the front sheet or strip 22 as shown in Figs. 1 and 6. End lining sheets 27 are located in the ends of the oven and provided with supports 28 for racks 29 and the bottom rack, may support a deflector 30.
Slight changes might be made in the details of construction of my invention with out departing from the spirit thereof or limiting its scope and hence I do not wish to restrict myself to the precise details herein set forth.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
1. A knockdown oven, comprising a top member having a front flange, the free edge of said flange having a lip forming projecting lugs at the ends of said front flange, end members having interlocking connection with the top member and provided with front flanges having their upper ends disposed between the front flange of the top member and the projecting lugs thereon, and a back member having interlocking connection with the end members.
2. A knockdown oven comprising a top member having a front flange, end members having interlocking connection with said top member and provided with bottom flanges and with front flanges, a back member having interlocking connection with the end members, and provided with a bottom flange, a-front sheet or strip secured to the front flanges of the end members and provided with a bottom flange secured to the bottom flanges of the end members, and a door hinged to said front sheet or strip and cooperating with the front flanges of the top and end members to close the front of the oven.
