To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS D. FOWLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oklahoma city, in the county of Oklahoma and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Poultry-Coops, of which the following is a specification. I
My invention relates to poultry coops, in which a wood frame is covered with electrically welded wire netting bent and secured to said frame, as hereinafter described.
The objects of my invention are; first, to provide a strong and durable coop; second, to construct such a coop sufliciently cheaply to satisfy the public demand; third, a coop having-a comparativelysmooth upper surface to prevent articles catching thereon.
I accomplish these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which: 7

Referring to the drawings, a and a designate the rear and front sills to the lower edges of which the bottom or fioor A is securely nailed, except at b, where the sills have their lower edges cut away leaving the openings or slots 6 to aid in washing the floor of the coop providing an escape for the water and debris when cleaning the coops. To the lower edge of the end sills a" and a' the floor A is firmly secured, in a manner to leave the outer surface of the bottom of the coop smooth for convenience 1n handling. In the four corners are the corner posts 0 c c and 0 firmly secured to the said sills; and midway the corner posts upon each side are the side posts d and cl secured to the side sills a and a to increase the strength of the coop, and to add firmness to the coop floor A, a central sill a is secured thereto and to the side posts 03 and d.
.The said posts are of equal length and to D are completed by taking a strip of elec trically welded wire netting Gr equal in width to the width and twice the height, nearly, of the coop and equal the length and (nearly) twice the height of the coop, cutting the corners away, as at E E, Fig. 4,.

In this manner I construct a poultry coop approximately indestructible and light having the advantages of ventilation, and sanitation and adapted to with stand the rough usage to which such coops are subjected in shipping poultry and returning the coops.
I provide a door opening by cutting the cross wires la from the marginal wire m and the longitudinal wire a has a portion cut out and its ends bent around the vertical wires 11/ to add strength; the said wires 70 being out long enough to wrap around the upper door-opening wire p adding security to the wires remaining in position. To add strength and safety to the door the two horizontal wires 0 0 are added, having their ends clamped around the Vertical marginal wires 9 of the door. See Fig. 1. In operation, when it is desired to open the door press the portion 25 of the door fastener 25 inwardly disengaging the said fastener from the vertical wire g of the door and slide the door open to any desired extent which may be held open by the said fastener engaging one of the vertical wires of the door and to hold the door in a closed position slide the door shut and cause the door fastening sp'ring't at the offset t to engage one of the vertical wires g. See Fig. 1.
It will be understood that the door may be placed anywhere between the ends of the coop, and in either side.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent,is--
In a device of the character described, the
combination with a coop body having a doorway formed therein, said coop body comprising vertical standards, a horizontally disposed wire located above said door- Way and fixedly secured to the coop body, a horizontally disposed wire located below the doorway and fixedly secured to the coop body, a door formed entirely of Wire netting, the ends of the vertical strands of said netting being bent into engagement with said horizontal wires above and below the doorway, to thereby slidably mount the door upon said wires, and a fastening device for said door formed of a single piece of wire and having one of its ends bent substantially at right angles to itself, said bent end being driven into one of said standards and an offset portion formed in said fastening device to adapt it to be engaged with one of the wires of the door,
