Application filed July 88, 1811. serial No. 840,721.
To all whom/it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosnrrrRoY a citizen of the United States, residing at leveland in the county of Cuyahoga and State 0t Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Burners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in gllS llll'lGlS.
. The ob'ect of my invention is to provide a burner o thisbcharacter1 in avhioh B1 smgle gas mixing tu e 18 emp oye su p g.a distributing chamber or mamfold wi th the )IOPEI mixture and having the several lllllllel tubes in direct communicat on therewit Another object of my invention is to provide a burner of thischaracter havtmufi cerainhdetails of structure hereinafter y set ort.
.In the accompanying drawings-:Figure 1 is a top dplan viewv artlyin section oi my improve burner. ig. 2 is a side elevation of the burner shown in Fig. 1.
Referrin now:.to-.the drawings, 1 represents .theistributing chamber whichis of an elon ated gylindrical form having open ends. he on s of said chamber are closed by the screw lugs-2, whereby ready access may be h d with the nterior of the chamber hamber providedwith two outwardl xtending arms 8 and 4, by meansot whic 'the distributing chamber and; the burner tubes and mixm tubecarried thereby are supported, all 0 which will be hereinafter more fully described..
The front side of the distributil? her -is provided .with a series 0 burner tubes 5, extendingat ri ht the chamber and of an elongated form. .The. burner tubes as shown areot an elongated form and formed integral with the chamber, but it will be understood that the same'can be formed separate and=' secured; "thereto cham- 40 in any desired manner. The outer ends'bf the burner tubes are open and mommy screw-threaded and into whichtherfplu' 6 are screwed, whereby theoute'rlendsf'ott e tubes are closed, yet allowin firQtheEready cleaning of the tubes. -:-Theubes 'as 'shown xtend at ri ht an les;to;therdlstributin mber an areo afdiametertlessfthan" t of the chamber. The upper faces of g- "stri ht angles thereto,
the burner tubes are provided with openings 7, whichare arranged in parallel lines and through. which the gas passes from the burner tubes. The arrangement of the 0 enings could be varied without departing rom my invention.
The lower side of the distributing chamber is provided with a downwardly and outwardly, E rojectingcoupling 8, communicating wit the. chamber. This coupling, as shown, is art-an ed midway the length of the chamber direct y below the space between two of the burner tubes. Screwed within said couplin 8 is the mixing tube 9, which, as shown ig.- 2, has its upper edges in a plane below. the up or edges ot the burner tube, yet slightly a ovc the lower edges of the tubes.
.The outer-end of the mixing tube has a chamberIO screwed thereon provided with a shutter 11, by means of which the supply of air to the mixing tube may be regulated. The position of the mixin tube is such that itin no way interferes wit the burner tubes. Thelburner tubes, as heretofore stated, are formed integral with a distributing chamber and areconnected together by the transverse webs 12 formed integral with the tubes, and said 'transverse webs are connected tother by the longitudinal webs 13, and said ougitudmal webs 18 also connect the transverse web' with the distributin chamber.
, While I have shown and escribed m burner tubes as being of this form, it will be understood that any form of burner tubes cari be used without departing from avin"" thus described my invention, what I c aim and desire to secure by Letters Pa ent-i sburner, com
