To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J OHN H. Gmssrncnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wellington, in the county of Lorain and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Oil-Burners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of this invention is to provide a practically efiicient crude oil burner, i. e. an apparatus in which air and crude oil spray may be delivered, and from which will emerge many jets of well mixed air and oil vapor.
The invention, as shown in the accompanying drawing, is fully described herein and defined by the appended claims.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a side view of a burner embodying the invention. Fig. 2. is an end elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a hori zontal section on line 33 of Fig. 2.
The burner comprises five cast metal tubes A, B, C, D and E. The three tubes A, B and G are arranged in parallel relation side by side; and the two upper tubes D and E are placed in parallel relation, but in a somewhat higher plane,-the tube D being about midway between the lower tubes A and B and the tube E being about midway between the lower tubes B and C. The central or receiving tube B has two oppositely disposed lateral branches 6, 2) near one end, and each of these branches has an external coupling flange b at its end. A mixture of oil spray and air is to be delivered into this tube through the end remote from these two lateral branches from an atomizer nozzle F which may be screwed into the threaded opening 5 in the end of said tube.
Each of the lower side-tubes A and C has at one end a flanged lateral branch, these being represented by a and 0 respectively for connection with the two lateral. branches 7), Z) of the tube B. Each tube A and C has also at its opposite end an upwardly inclined flanged branch, said branches being represented by 0;, 0.
The upper tubes D and E have near one end downwardly inclined flanged branches (Z and 6 adapted to be connected respectively with the inclined flanged branches at and 0'. These tubes D and E have each a plurality of delivery jet openings (Z through the upper side of their walls, these being inclined suitably in various directions to discharge the jets of the combustible mixture in such directions that when ignited they will act most efficiently on the things to be heated. Additionally, the tubes D and E have through their walls and below the center a number of small jet openings (Z so inclined that they direct the burning jets of combustible mixture between the lower tubes A, B and G, and against the refractory heart-h K beneath them. By means of these downwardly inclining jets the tubes A, B and C will be heated to such a degree that they will act as generators within which the oil spray will be vaporized. The arrangement is such that as the mixture of air and oil spray is delivered into the middle tube B it traverses the length thereof, thence passing in opposite directions into the tubes A and C, traversing the entire length thereof; then upward into the tubes D and E, filling their entire length and passing out through the jet openings (Z and d. lVhile following this tortuous path through the hot tubes, the oil spray will be effectively vaporized and thoroughly mixed with the air, so that whatever emerges from the jet openings in the tubes D and E will be a complete and proper combustible mixture of air and oil vapor. The jet openings referred to may be holes through nipples J which are screwed into holes in the burner tubes.
Having described my invention. I claim:
1. A crude oil burner comprising a centrally disposed receiving tube having its inlet at one end and having oppositely extended lateral branches near its other end, two side tubes located on opposite sides of said receiving tube and each having near one end a lateral branch for connection respectively with the two lateral branches of the receiving tube. and having an upwardly inclined lateral branch near its other end, and two upper tubes located in a higher plane, each having a downwardly inclined lat eral branch for connection with the inclined lateral branches of the lower side-tubes, the said two upper tubes having a plurality of inclined jet openings in their walls above the center.
2. A crude oil burner comprising a centrally disposed receiving tube having its inlet at one end and having oppositely extended lateral branches near its other end. two side tubes located on opposite sides of said receiving tube and each having near one end a lateral branch for connection respectively with the two lateral branches of the receiving tube, and having an upwardly inclined lateral branch near its other end, and two upper tubes located in a higher plane, each having a downwardly inclined lateral branch for connection with the inclined lateral branches of the lower sidetubes, the said two upper tubes having a plurality of inclined jet openings in their walls above the center, and other jet openings in their walls below the center.
