:Be it known that I, Cmnnns E. Bunsen,

and residentozt Springfield, in the county of i fHa-mpde'n and State (it-Massachusetts, have; nvented certain ne'w and nsetul lmprovemen'ts in Advertising -Devices, of which the full, clear, and exact de scription. H A
' This invention relatesto an advertising device having the nature of anintea-changeable sign, and primarily designed for use .for, lunch rooms, thesame being so con structed that J-diiTerent cards showing the menu for difl'erent'days maybe readily inserted into the sign frm or holder, and as easily removed to be replaced by other sign Y cards.
An object of this'invention is attained by the, provisionof the frame having a sidewise opening guideway therein 'inwhich a board or back plate may be inserted, which back plate carries a series of, card holders, all so combined and arranged that-\thepla'te or back'may be moved with all of the holders" and the sign made up and so that, wvhen desired, individual sign cards may be withdrawn or replaced without removing the holder carrying plate.
A further ob ect 15 to so construct and combine the parts that the opening at the edge of the frame in which the slidable plate for the plurality'of card holders is inserted may be closed by a member car'- ried by such plate which serves as a guard for the sign cards in-the' card holders and which conceals-such sign cards and which may be so rocked relatively .tothe plate that it assumes a position which is non-obstructing to the insertion or removal of sign cards in the card. holders Whenever desired. t
A further object is to provide a construction which is sightly and attractive, simple, cheap and durable. 7
The invention is described conjunction with the accompanying drawings and is set forth in the claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of the advertising device showing one of the card holder supports or backs partially drawn out from slidewa-y int-he frame therefor, Fig. 2 is a vertical cross sectional view on line 22, Fig. 1. Fig 3' 1s a partial horizontal sectional viewon lined-3; and Figil is a partial horizontal sectional view on line A t, Fig; 1.- e.

In thedrawings, A represents an upright *fiame an open iii-tint;aster. which a glass covering plate a is preferablyprovided,a nd 7 having a vertical back plate '6 formed with trough-shaped top and bottom portions dd Lo-fozrrn a horizontal guideway,
which gnideway opens at one side to the vertical edge of; the frame. B represents a plate shdable in and removable from said guideway and having a plurality oi? hori zontal parallel endwise open cardholders I), each consisting of a thin metal strip, the op.-
"posite edges of which are return bentto form retaining lips g 9 along and within which a long narrow. or otherwise shaped card may be inserted with a sliding engagement, These strips arranged in parallelism and secured in any suitable manner to the plate 13' are opened, essentially at their outer ends, to permit of the insertion and removal ofthe sign cards. In the drawings the sign cards arerepresented by the characterfin. The card holder carrying plate B has its upper and lower edge portions angularly turned or flanged so that it has a shape conformable to the trough shaped guide way (Z therefor in the. frame; and :it has hinge lugs h hwhich are extended horizontally outwardly beyond the edge of the card- 'holder plate at the top and bottom thereof.
G represents a bar wider than thegguide way opening a in the frame having angnlarly extended ear lugs-i i which are narrower'than said guideway openings which are matched with and pivotally connected to the hinge lugs h ofthe plate B ,and the said 7 that in the present device the plate B which carries the series of card holders is independent of and removable from the frame so that the board or'back may be taken out and rcmovcd'trom the place of location of the frame, the menu sign made up by the interchangeable cards insertible'in the card holders and then the said plate and card holders with the'cards as a-unit reinserted in-the guidewayin the frame. It is also to be perceivedon' reference to Figs. 3 and 4 'thaf'thebar, bin 9 connected at B atthe top. and bottom t er'eof, is adapted to be positioned withits face across and to close the;edgewisej. opening 6 of the harm, and
conceal' and serve as a guard for thesi 'ca-rds'in the 'card holders and prevent t e entrance of dirt, dust and to some extent of moisture to'the interior of the fra l-1e; and it is, moreover, to be perceived'tha't when the card holding plateis fully or even only partiallydrawnoiitgtromits place in the frame the bar G may. be rocked to the position shown in Fig.1 4 so "thatsuch bar is offside irorn heplanelof the horizontal edgewise opening guideway' and forms no obstruction The frarne mayb not deemed to involve toi the removal or insertion of the signfcards, 20 I. sented, thefmmeis made with'a'horizontal -vguideway opening. at the op osite edges In the example of the device here repretherein,la;limiting artition or :the inner ately of the frame.
