Be it known lthat I, lJOHN WETsUE, a. citizen of lthe United States, residing 'at Seattle,
f wheels holding the heavy framework so that the lower edges of said framework travel just above the floor whereby the irregularities in the floor being scraped will hold the scraper from yscraping in. the hollow places, the high spots only being remo-ved. Another novel` feature is in the brush actuating mechanism hereinafter more fully set forth which construction is adapted to sweep the floor in advance of the wheels, thus the shavings and chips will not cause the knife to jump and chatter.
I am aware that there are scraping devicrs where a framework carrylng a scraper irregularities as the scraper advances, the
features of' adjusting and removing the blades of the common devices is somewhat l diiiicult and also the adjustment of the handle for different sized rooms or to suit the person operating the scraper is not satisfactory.

Similar'reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views of my device as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
I haveprovided a framework 1 having side walls 2 and an end wall 3 which is rig idly secured or formed integral with said side walls and provided with lugs 4 having apertures 5 adapted to receive the bolt 6 by which the handle me1nbers7 are pivotally secured to said framework 1, said handle members 7 are provided with lower extensions S which are disposed on either side of a stud 9 which is secured in said end wall 3 and provided with a nut 10 and washer 11 `adapted to engage one edge of said lower extensions 8, said stud is also provided with a nut 12 and a washer 13 whereby an adjustment of said handle .menti-y bers 7 is accomplished. Said member 7 being in the form of a bell crank the handle 14e is raised and lowered as desired, said j handle 14 is lengthened or shortened by `longitudinally sliding the shank 15 thereof which is normally clamped between said members 7 by the boltsl. It will be seen by this construction that the handle of my device may be either raised or lowered or `lengthened or shortened to suit the room being scraped. In practice the floor is scraped from the walls of the room toward `the center of the room. The side wallsu2 Y are provided with apertures 17 which jour- 24 of said framework 1 at the opposite termination of the travel of said weight. It being obvious that during the remaining portion of the travel of the entire machine along the floor that said friction roll 21 will slip on the undersurface 254 of said weight 23 which operates the clamp lever 26 by a rearwardly extending member 27 which lis rigidly secured to said weight and pivotally secured by the pin 28 to said lever 26. Said lever 26 is clamped in xed relation to a brush 29 by the adjusting fbolt 30 which clamps said clamp lever 26 to the shaft 31 to which is secured the brush supporting pieces 32, said supporting pieces 32 are detachably secured `to the Aback' 33 of said brush 29 by the bolts 34. It will be seen that as the weight 23 advances in one direction that the brush will be raised as is shown in dotted lines in Fig 2. The scraper blade 35 when the machine is traveling in this, direction is raised from the floor until the end of the travel of the machine in this direction is reversed after which said scraper blade 35 is lowered against the floor by raising on saidliandle 14 and drawn in opposite directicnwhile in the process of scraping which opposite direction of travel causes an opposite direction of travel of the weight 23 lowering the brush as shown in full lines in Figs. 1 and 2 thus sweeping theV chips from the floor which would otherwise raise the wheels and cause the surface being scraped to be uneven. By referringto Fig. 2 of the drawing it will be noted that the large body of material 24y is substantially adjacent the scraper 25 which deadens the tendency of said scraper to vibrate in view of the weight and mass. Said'scraper 35 is secured to said body 24 by the movablemember 36 comprising a heavy jaw 37 pivotally secured to said body 24 by the bolt 38 which passes through said body 24 and through the lever extensions 39 disposed on either side thereof. vSaid lever extensions extend toward the endwall 3 and areprovided at the ends nearestV said wall 3 with across bar 40 which is adapted to receive the adjusting screw 4 which acts against a boss 42 rigidly secured orformed integral with the end wall 3. It will be seen by referring to Fig. 2 of the accompanying drawings that when the cross bar 40 is in its raised position as is shown in full Vlines that the heavy jaw'37 holds said scraper blade 35 firmly against the blade clamp 24 and that when said screw 41 is slackened allowing said bar 40 to be lowered that said jaw 37 is raised which permits the removal of said scraper blade 35. Said scraper blade 35 is provided with hole 43 engaging theV pin 44 projecting from the adjusting nut 45 which is preferably threaded to receive the blade adjusting screw 46 which is prevented from traveling longitudinally by t-he groove 47 and thrust collar 48 which is embedded in the body 24 which body is provided with a recess 49 permitting the travel of the adjusting nut 45. The threaded adjusting screw 46 is provided with an upwardly extending shank 50 and adjusting wheel 51 accessible from the exterior of my device. I have provided a retaining plate 52 detachably secured to the heavyportion 24 substantially concealing said recess 49, said retaining plate being provided with a slot 53 permittingv travel of the pin 44 therein said heavy jaw Y37 Y is provided with an opening 54 extending from the front face 55 to the inner face 56. To prevent the wood work from beingv marked by the careless use of my device I havev provided rubber bumpers 57 projecting beyond the end and side surfaces i of the framework. It will be not-iced by referring to the drawings that said blade clamp 24 is provided with a recess 58 on the undersurface thereof allowing the chips n o and shavings to freely pass from Vthe scraper blade and forming the runners 59 at each side of said recess, said runners 59 prevent the scraper from removing material in the hollow portions of the surface being scraped until the -high portionshave been-removed.
To prevent the runners 59 from marking the floor I have provided a facing 60 detachably secured thereto by the screws 61. The wheels 19 are also provided with a relatively soft facing or tire 62. l Y Y Y I do not wish to be limited to the specific construction but wish to depart from such details as are within the scope of the appended claims.

In a Hoorscraping device, a wheeled frame work, an end wall provided at the rear f said frame work and a forwardly projecting boss provided on said end wall, a movable member and a scraper blade held between said movable member and said wheeled frame work, a pivotal connection for said movable member, and lever extensions to said movable membera cross bar connecting'said lever extensions and anadjusting screw carried bysaid cross bar and engamlngvsaid lug whereby said movable Y member isadjusted. 3. In a Hoor scraping machine, a Wheeled frame Work and a body portion forming a part thereof, a recess provided on the under surface of said body portion, a runner provided on each side of said recess and an anti-friction facing detachably secured to said runner.
