BOOT-HOLDER.

Be it known that I, Wnesrnn D. GILBERT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Johnstown, in the county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Boot Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in boot holders, and has for its object the provision of a simple inexpensive device of the character specified, for holding a boot in place over a puncture or the like in a pneumatic tire, which will hold the boot firmly and tightly throughout its length, and which may be easily applied and detached.

The" present embodiment of the invention comprises a holder for each side of the tire, having means for engaging the rim, and
also having means for engaging the boot.
The holder is composed of two similar sections, and each section is composed of two end links'or units, and a plurality of intermediate links or units. Each link or unit 1 is approximately Tshaped, and the stem ofthe T is provided with a hook 2, for engaging the rib 3 of the rim 4 of the wheel. In the intermediate units, each arm of the T is reduced at its outer end on the edge adjacent to the stem, as'shownat 5, and one of the arms is slotted longitudinallyat 6, and the other arm is provided with a headed stud 7 for engaging the slotof the adjacent unit. The pin and slot connection permits movement of the sections toward and from each other, within the limits of the slot 6. The end units differ from the intermediate units only at their outer ends. Since the said units do not engage another unit at their outer ends, the slot is omitted in one,
and the pin in the other. Each of the said units 8 and'9 has the stem portion provided with a hook :2, similar to the hook 2 of the other units, and each of the said units has its outer end rounded at its upper corner as shown at 10. The end unit 8 has its inner end provided with a headed pin 7*, and the inner end of unit 9 is provided with a slot 6, the said pin and slot being precisely the same as pins 7 and slots '6 of the other units. Each of the units, bothend and intermediate is provided with a loop 11 secured to the outer face of the unit or link, by means of a rivet 12, and a buckle to be described is connected to each loop. .The
cross bar 13 of the buckle is'engaged by'the loop, and each buckle comprises a frame 14: of which the cross bar is a part, and a bar 15, having serrations l6'at its outer edge is mounted to slide on the frame. The ends of the cross bar 15 are bent around the end members of the frame 14, and are integral with the armssof a 'U-shaped member 17,fitting against the opposite face of the frame. The boot 18 may be of any desired material suitable for the purpose, and is fitted over the opening or injury in the tire 19.
The boot is provided at each side edge with a series of tabs 20, and each tab is engaged between the teeth 16 of the bar15 and the adjacent side member of the frame 14. The tabs bear against the inner edge of the body of the member 17, and prevent the bar 15 from slipping away from engagement with the tab.

A device of the character specified each loop, each buckle engaging the ad comprising in combination with the boot adapted to be arranged transversely ofthe tread of a pneumatic tire, and provided with a. series of spaced tabs at each side edge, of a holder at each side of the tire, each holder comprising a plurality of links connected. together and slidable on each other, each link having a hook for engaging the rim, and a buckle pivoted to each link for engaging the adjacent tab.
4. A device of the character specified, comprising a plurality of series of slidably connected links, each link having a hook at one side, a loop pivoted to the outer face .of each link, and a buckle connected with each loop.
