IGNITER.
i ,ebenen I @lpectcntion of Eetters Eatent. Application tiled April 10, 1912.
@egon lill, serial No. 665,794.
To all fwtom; z may concern .f
Be it known that l, vHANS Brfr'rxnn, a subject oi the Emperor of Germany, residing at Bu'elo. in the county of Erie and State of New York have invented certain new useful lmyirovements in lgniters, ot which the following is e specification.
This invention relates to n lighter of the commonly used. lt is particulerly adapted for use under vurious circumstences, that is Where a lightl is needed sind greet volume of dame is then desired, Where a smell light is desired such as in lightin e, cigar, etc., or it muy be used upon t e street in windy weather, in which cese n larger burning'nreu is necessary to prevent its being;r blown out.
Referring to the drnwings: Figure 1 is e side elevation of the entire device embody* ing/my invention, Fig. 2 is e top View of my invention with the lighter removed, Fig. 3 is'nn enlarged sectional View of the lighter,
Fig. e is an enlarged View of the cap and center rod, Fig. 1s a partial elevation and section of the Wick carrying member and slotted sleeve,l the nitridholding member beingl pnrtly Withdrawn. y Lilre numerals refer to similar parte in all the hgures or the drawings.
Referring to Fig. l, 5 represents the top or'tion adapted to carry n liquid which Will eep the burner member ot the igniter saturnted when not in use. 6 represents the cap member which carries the igniter and Wick. A die V or e. similar rough material is placed on the bottom of the receptacle and rigid1y` Jt'estened thereto. y
Referring pertieulerly tn ltlig. 3 numeral 8 represents e. rod centrally und rigidly positloned in esp 6. The inner periphery of csp 6 is screwthreaded as et 9. This screwtlrirend is adapted to hold i the adjustable ntrid earryin member 10 therein. A Wick carrying mem er 1l is also adapted to screw into the member 6. Th serve this purpose. The wick member 11 has one end slotted as at 13 thereby'forming hin ers 14e having their ends bent as at 15 to holgd within the tube the asbestos wick 16. A sliding sleeve 17 is adapted to freely slide over the member 11 and by its position it regulates the amount of exposedwick. A nitrid element 18 is held Withinthe tube or nitrid carrying member 10 Vund as it becomes a1s then only e screw threads 12 used or worn by abrasion upon the .7 it. may be pushed farther out of the nitriet een l0 by the rod S. This is caused by the ro tsting of the nitrid cap member within the cap.
The operation of the device is ns followsr`lfl'hen the apparatus is first assembled n, new piece ot' nitrid is inserted within thefnitrifl holdingmember. This member the nitrid stri kes the pusher. The'wiclt ineiir ber is then screwed into the cap until the Ipoint of tlienitrid just projects through it.. The Whole striker is then placed within tire receptacle 5 which carries benzin or Some similar fluid. When it is desired to obtain n light the whole csp containing the striker is Withdrawniend the nitrid strip is drawn across the tile upon the bottom oli the re ceptacle. This causes sparks which ite the vapor of the benzin causing the exposed wick to burn. The amount ot' Home een then be regulated bythe sliding sleeve by pushing it vtoward the end of the igniter. Only a small portion of the wiclr er is obtained, by sliding the sleeve benl?. to
ilvnrd the en? n, lnroer aren. of wick is posed and a. rger Plume obtained.
Having described my invention rebut il claim is:m f
,In combinntion with e conicnl' sbsipe re ceptncle e le member rigidly e'tteched thereto,v an igniter member removably een ried therein, seid igniter members consisting of a cap internally threaded, n pusher roll centrally and rigidly fastened within seid cap, n tubular nitrid carrying member here ing one end enlnr ed, seid enlargement ing' screwthreade and adopted to serienr Within seidl cap, e, tubular Wiclr cnrrying member hving 'an enlarged ortion of its outer periphery screwthreede end @adopted to screw within seid ce. Wick'ciirrying member ring slotted so es to expose e portion ot' the Wlck end e sleeve adapted to 'slide upon seid wie-lr carrying member. In testimony whereof Annes M. McGee.
and consequently only o. smell llame l emr: my signeture 1n presence of two:l witnesses. I'
