2. The upturned outer edges and the upturned end portions give stiffness to the doors and the doors are further stiiened by n having their inner edges flanged downwardly, as at 8, and also having secured. thereto longitudinal bars, such as Z bars 9, and transverse bars 10.
To each end oi the door at its outer edge is secured a roller 11 running on a ide or track 12 which curves upwardly rom its inner to its outer edge. To each end at the inner edge of the door is secured a roller 13 running on a track or guide 14 which slopes downwardly from t-he center of the car outwardly. The tracks or guides 14 on both sides of the longitudinal center of the Car .are formed from a single bar bent to the shape shown in F ig. l and having its ends riveted to a transverse plate beam l er ending from side to side of the car. The intermediate portion of the guide la may also be supported fromsaid Fbeam 15, .such as by a casting 16 riveted to said beam. `The tracks or guides l2 have their inner ends riveted to theV transverse beam while their outer ends are suitably secured, as at 18, tothe side plates oi the car. The journal pins` of the rollers 11 have their inner sides mounted in a portion of the door and their outer ends mounted in straps 19 `riveted to the end portions 6 ofthe doors. yThe journal pins'of the rollers 13 have their inner ends mounted in the end portions 6 of the doors and their outer ends supported by brackets '20 riveted to said end portions of the .door and lying'ubeyond or outside'of the guides.. er tracks 14- when the @one are ossea, as in Fig. 1, rollers at the inner edges of the doors "are supported on the high portions of .the guides or tracks 14, while the rollers at the outeredges of the doors are supported on the lower portions of the guides or tracks 12. The center of gravity of the doors moves downwardlyso that the doorsl need not be pulled open, but. the inner edges of thedoors do not swing in the arc of circle as in the case of doors hung on hinges. The consequence is that a large discharge opening may be employed and the doors may be located comparatively low and still be enabled `to fully open without striking the track. This arrangement enables the center of gravity of the loaded car to be quite low and at the same time gives a very large discharge opening. Y
Any suitable mechanism may be used for operating the doors; As shown each door has connected thereto a pair (if/,links 22 whose outer ends-are connected 'i'o cranks 23 or rock shaftsQ4`mounted in suitable bearings and located longitudinally of the car. lNhen the cranks 23 and links 22 are brought into line asshown in full lines in Fig. 1 the doors are held in closed position, while when moved to the posit-ion shown in dot-ted lines in Fig. l the doors are allowed to drop to open` position. Suitable means, not shown, will be provided for locking the shafts 24 against accidental rotation when the doors are in closed position. To open the doors it is only necessary to release the shafts and start them vin their rotary movement in order to flex the toggles formed by crank 9.3 and links 22, after which the weight of the l-oad or of the doors themselves will force the doors to open position.
The arrangement shown can be used for discharging the load on either side or in the center. For discharging at the side only one of the doors is opened, whereas to discharge in the center bothidoors are opened.
The door arrangement described' is of rather simple construction and provides a very large discharge opening by means of doors located. close to the track. The arrangement furthermore insures the doors being held tightly closed, since the supports Jfor the inner edges of the doors are rigid and cannot yield.
What I claim is l. A railway c ar provided with a bottom discharge opening, a longitudinally arranged inclined door closing toward the center of the car, and guiding supports for the inner and outer edges of the door, the supports for the outer edge sloping upwardly and those for the inner edge sloping downwardly, whereby when the door is moving outwardly it assumes a greater inclination, and means for moving the door on its supportsi,
2. A railway car provided with a bottom discharge opening, an inclined door closing toward the center of the car, and guiding supports for the inner and outer edges of the door, said supports being located beyond the ends of the door opening and the supports for the outer edge of the door sloping upwardly and those for the inner edge sloping downwardly, and means for moving the door on said supports.
3. A railway car provided with a bottom discharge opening and provided with sloping body plates, aninclined door arranged to close said opening, supports for the inner and-outer edges of the door located under neath the sloping body plates, the supports for the outer edge of the door sloping up` wardly and those for the inner edge of the door sloping downwardly, and means for 'moving the door on said supports.
4. A railway car having a bottom di" charge opening and`provided with sloping end floor plates, a longitudinally arranged inclined doorclosing toward the center of the car, and guiding supports for the outer and inner edges of the door and ,located underneath the sloping end floor plates, the guides for the outer edge of the door sloping upwardly and those for the inner edge of the doorsloping downwardly, and means for moving the door on said guides.
5. A railway car having a bottom discharge opening, a longitudinally arranged door closing toward the center of the car, transverse beams at the ends of the door opening, guides for the outer and inner edges of the door on said transverse beams, the guidesfor the outer edgelof the door sloping upwardly and those forthe inner edge of the door sloping downwardly, and means for moving the door on said guides.
6. A railway car provided with a bottom discharge opening, doors closing said opening and having their edges contacting when closed and being lower at the contacting edges than at the outer edges, and supports on which said doors'are'movablymounted, said supports being arranged to permit the doors to move apart and simultaneously lower their meeting edges and elevating their outer edges.

A railway car provided with a bottom discharge opening and with sloping end floor plates, a longitudinally arranged inclined door closing toward the center of the car, and guides or tracks for the ends of the doors located beyond the ends of the door opening, the guides or tracks for the inner edge of the door sloping downwardly' and outwardly, and means for moving the door on said guides or tracks.
11. .A pair of doors for dump cars movable bodily and inclined gether at their lower edges, oppositely inclined supporting means positioned beneath the center of the car for the inner portions. of the doors, oppositely inclined supports at opposite sides of the car for, the outer portions of the doors, and door actuating means.
