Description

'UNTTED sTATEs PATENT oEEroE.
JOSEPH HUGHES, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-I-IALF TO BUTTE.
ENGINEERING & ELECTRIC CO., OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, A COPARTNER- SHIP.
FOOD-CARRIER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented sept.3,1912.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH HUGHES, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in F ood-Carriers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a `device for conveying food, and is particularly applicable to such a conveyance for carrying food from' Y which will be more fully explained by reference to the accompanyin drawing in which the figure is a perspective view of the food carrier. v
The case A may be madeof sheet metal, or other suitable material, and has double Walls with an interspace for a non-con-V ductor such as air. Within the case -are any desired number of shelves 2, and doors are provided, as at 3, through which access may be had to the case.
The front wheels 4 may be fixed parallel with each other and in the direction of desired travel. `'Ihe rear wheels 5 may be swiveled in such away that a slight ush will turn the apparatus in any desire direction and also enable itto be properly guided through the halls and sinuosit-ies over which it must travel. Either or both pairs of wheels may be swiveled.
Within the case is fitted a suitable resistence as at 6, through which an electrical current is passed, and the device vis thus heated to any desired degree. Upon the top of the case are posts, supporting the rails, 7 a sufficient distance .from the top of the case lso that when a tray or like support, not
shown, for butterl and similar articles, is
placed -upon the rails, the space beneath theA latter will providea circulation of air and thus prevent the undue heating of the articles carried by the tray and which articles it is desired to keep cool.
Articles which are to be heated are placed upon the shelves 2, or otherwise suitably p aced Within the case, and the door may be closed. For the purpose of heating, I have shown Wires 8 forming an electrical circuit and properly connected with plugs, as at 9, through which the current may be carried to the interior and through the resistance 6. These plugs are adapted to receive connections from any other suitable plugs, as for instance one in the kitchen. Connection may be made with a local plug Which Will allow the current to pass through the apparatus and raise and retain the temperature at any desired degree.
When the carrier is to be moved to some other locality, such as a distant room, the wires are disconnected from the local plug and the apparatus is then transferred to the point where it is needed and connection is again made with a plug at that point. The current thenpassing through. theapparatus will maintain the heat of its contents at any desired temperature and as long as may be desired. v i
Having thus described my invention,
witnesses.
J OSEPH HUGHES. Witnesses A. K. DAGGETT, C. F. BUTTE.
