Letters Patent No. 103,768, dated May 31, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN SECTOR ELECTRO MAGNETS.
The Schedule referred to in those Letters Patent and making part of the "as.
I, HENRY M. 'PAINE, of the city of Newark, in the State of New Jersey, have made certain Improvements in the Construct-ion of Sector Electro-Maguets, of which the following is a specification.
My improvement relates to shaping the limbs of sector-magnets in such wise that they will describe radial lines, and thus form a compact mass, when brought together, around a common axis.
The limbs A A, Figure 1, are made separate, and their outer lines a a taper'from the poles b 11 toward their jimctiou' D at angles that will meet at the center of theshaft, which forms the center of motion around which they rotate.
The junction of the limbs is shouldered, (I, so as to secure a space between them for the current coils, and screw-bolts c c, orrivets, bind the limbs together.
Figure 2 represents a wheel made upof these radial magnets.
I claim as my invention- The construct-ion of radial-Embed magnets, substantially as herein described.
