Description

u initd Staten lTIMOTHY B. STEWART, OFA HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT,
Leners Patent No. 103,676, dem Mc!) 31, 1810.
IMPROVEMENT 1N OIL-Boxes ron CAR-Axims.
The Schedule referred to in than Letten Patent and making part of the same.
I, TIMOTHY B. STEWART, of 'Hartford -county of Hartford, State of Connecticut, have invented certain Improvements in Oil-Boxes for Gar-Axles, of which the following is a specification. y
Nature and Object-of the Invention.
My invention relates to the arrangement of rubber springs to take up the side jar of the boxes in their' jaws.
Description of the Accompanying Drawing. Figure I is an end view of an oil-box. Figure II an end view of a case containing a rubber spring. v
Figures III and IV are detail views of a part of my invention.V
General Description. A is the oil-box, which is a frame or case, and holds the bearing-box B.
To the sides of this box, I attach the cases C O which contain rubber springs D D.
Pieces E E cover and retain these springs in place,
and in these pieces E E are formed cuts for the jaws F F.
The construction of the pieces E E is such that they can be placed in the cases G C through the openings H H, a stud, K, entering the hole in the center of the rubber spring D, and the case O is so formed that, when the piece E is turned, it is fastened beneath the projections M 'M. Then it is in this position the oilbox and its springs are inserted into the jaws, andthe piece E is prevent-ed from turning by the said jaws.
By this arrangement the side jar on the boxes is lessened, as any jar of this kind is received bythe rubber springs, and thus the cai" is relieved of' much of the ordinary shocks, and rendered more comfortable. I claim as my invention' The arrangement of the case C, spring D, and piece E, all constructed and combined in the manner and forl the purpose set forth.
TIMOTHY B. STEWART.
