CURTAIN-POLE.

To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, Fnrrz ZELLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Renton, in the county of King and State of lVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Poles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to improvements in cur tain poles and has for its object to provide a very simple and efficient means for easily and quickly securing the curtains to the pole.

Another object of the invention is to provide a practical device of the above character which may be manufactured at small cost, and is strong, durable, and of great convenience in actual use.

lVith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a curtain pole embodying the present invention showing the same mounted upon the window frame; Fig. 2 is an enlarged transverse section of the pole; and Fig. 3 is a detail fragmentary perspective view thereof, the curtain securing bar being swung outwardly to its open position.

Referring in detail to the drawing 5 designates the body of the pole which is of substantially rectangular form in cross section and is provided in one face with a longitudinal channel 6. The body of the pole is further provided at one edge of said channel with a longitudinally extending groove or recess 7 whereby a comparatively broad bottom plate or flange 8 is formed at the lower longitudinal edge of the pole. This flange is provided in its upper surface with the spaced transverse grooves 9 which terminate at their inner ends in the plane of the channel face of the body of the pole and do not extend into the longitudinal groove 7.

The curtain securing or retaining bar 10 is hingedly secured at one of its longitudinal edges to the upper rib or shoulder 11 on the body of the pole as indicated at 12.

To this longitudinal rib of the body bar a plurality of loops 13 are secured to receive the hooks 14 which are secured to the cross Specieaton of Letters Patent.

Upon the free longitudinal edge of the retaining member 10 the spaced projections or lugs 15 are provided and these lugs are adapted to move into the grooves 9 in the lower flange 8 of the body bar when the retaining member is swung to its closed position. To one end of the member 10 a hook 16 is attached for engagement in an eye 17 fixed to the end of the body of the pole.

In the actual use of my improved curtain pole, the edges of the curtain are disposed upon the grooved surface of the flange 8 of the pole and arranged within the longitudinal groove or recess 7 thereof. The retaining member 10 is now swung downwardly and into the channel 6 of the pole, so that the lugs 0r projections 15 of said member moving into the grooves 9 will engage the curtain and compress the same against the inner end walls of said grooves and within the longitudinal groove 7 After the hook 16 has been engaged in the eye 17, it will be obvious that the curtain will be securely held in the pole and its release therefrom in the pull on the curtain occasioned by the adjustment of the same effectually prevented.

From the foregoing it is believed that the construction and manner of use of my improved curtain pole will be fully understood. The device is extremely efficient and provides means whereby the curtains may be easily, quickly and properly attached to the pole, the use of hooks, rings and similar means now in common use being entirely eliminated. Owing to the simple construction of my improved pole, it will be obvious that the same can be produced at very small cost. face portions thereof which are exposed to view may be provided with any desired ornamentation, and knobs or other ornamental embellishments may be provided at the ends of the pole.

While I have shown and described the preferred construction and arrangement of the various parts of the invention, it will be obvious that the same is susceptible of considerable modification without departing from the essential features or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.

What I claim is 1. A curtain pole comprising a body bar having a longitudinal channel and a plurality of transverse grooves in one of the The body of the pole upon the surside Walls of the channel, and a curtain retaining member hingedly mounted upon the body bar and provided With projections on its free edge to engage a curtain arranged over said transverse grooves to retain the curtain in position upon the pole.

2. A curtain pole comprising a body bar of rectangular form in cross section having a longitudinally extending channel in one face, and a plurality of spaced transverse grooves in one of the side Walls of said channel, a retaining member hingedly mounted upon one of the longitudinal ledges of the body bar and movable into the channel thereof, said retaining member being provided upon `its free edge with a plurality of lugs to engage a curtain arranged upo-n` the grooved Wall of said channel to retain the curtain therein, and fastening means at one end of said retaining member and theV body barv to removably secure said member in the channel.
