EMERY-WHEEL DRESSER.
Application filed July 21,, 1910. Serial No. 573,093.
To all whom it may concern .7
- Be it known that 1, PAUL WARD LAMsoN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at No. 2835 Virginia avenue, city of Louisville, in the county of deiferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Emery- N heel Dressers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to rollers for dressing emery and other abrading wheels, and the principal object of the same is to provide a dressing roller that is composed of a plurality of disks having an interlocking engagement that prevents relative rotation,
' and in which the peripheries of the disks are shaped so that angular scraping edges are provided.
In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein I Figure l is a view in side elevation of the improved dressing roller. Fig, 2 is a front view thereof. Fig. 3 is a view in, side elevation of the center disk of the roller. Fig.
4 is a central transverse sectional view of the roller. Fig. 5 is a@ detail perspective 316;; of one of the outer disks and the center Referring to said accompanying drawings by numerals, itv will be seen that the improved dressing roller is composed of the outer disks 1 and 2 and the inner or central disk 3, The central disk 3 is provided with .a hub 4 the ends of which have the alternating, lugs 5 and recesses 6 formed thereon. The outer disks 1 and 2 are duplicates, and their hubs 7 have their inner, ends provided with alternatingvlugs 8 and recesses 9 complemental to the lugs and recesses of the hub 1 of disk 3. The outer ends of hubs 7 are provided with a circular rib 10.
The disks 1, 2 and 3 are provided with radial corrugations and when the same are assembled in interlocking engagement, said corrugations provide the periphery of the roller with two annular rows of diamond shaped recesses 11 which are arranged in staggered relation so that the edges thereof present various angles to the emery or other stone to be dressed.
In assembling the disks, the lugs and re-' cesses of the hub of the center disk 3 are placed into interlocking engagement with the lugs and recesses of the hubs of the disks 1 and 2, and a sleeve 12 preferably of hard metal, is passed through the hubs and the ends 13 of said sleeve crimped over the end ribs 10 of the hubs of. said disks 1 and 2, .so
that relative lateral movement of the disks 1, 2 and 3 is prevented. A bushing 14, prefrecesses, the continuous angular edges of which will efiecti'vely dress the surfaces of emery or other wheels. And that the disks being in flush-contact between the corrugations prevent peripheral grooves being formed on the roller, such as would tend to produce ribs or other raised portions on the work being treated.
What I claim as m invention is In an emery wheel resser, a series of cutter wheels each having a hub and a cutter blade extending from the hub, a sleeve on which said wheels are mounted, and means to hold said wheels locked'together, said means comprising a series of interlocking lugs and pockets formed on adjacent wheels, and a sleeve passing throughthe hub and having its ends beaded directly on the outer surfaces of the outside cutter wheels.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses. PAUL WARD LAMSON.
Witnesses:
