Description

W. KLUG. SWINGING AND ROLLING comm. APPLICATION FILED MAR. 11, 1911.
1,035,450. Patented Aug.'13, 1912.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM KLUG, 0F PLAZA, NORTH DAKOTA.
SWINGING AND ROLLING COLTER.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, l/VILLIAM KLUo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plaza, in the county of Mountrail and State of North Dakota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Swinging and Rolling Colters to be Attached to Plows, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in the swinging and rolling colter used on plows, and the objects of my improvements are, first, in order that when the colter is in the ground and it strikes a stone or other hard substance it will avoid throwing the plow out of the ground; second when the colter strikes a stone or other hard substance in the ground it will immediately rise out of the ground, pass over the object, and then be forced immediately back into the ground again without bending or springing the bars or shanks to which it is attached and between which it revolves.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 shows a side elevation of my improved colter and Fig. 2 a top plan view.
Referring to the drawings in which similar reference letters indicate like parts in all the figures, K represents a swivel member intended to be mounted upon the beam of a plow in any known manner, and having a swivel bearing K with confining shoulders K K; also a bracket member A B perforated to receive the swivel K secured together in any suitable manner, as by bolts A to compel them to swing as one member upon the swivel K and constructed with an upwardly and outwardly spring-supporting Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 11, 1911.
Patented Aug. 1 3, 1912.
Serial No. 613,913.
arm J and a downwardly extending colter supporting arm C, upon which the colter levers M are pivoted at I. These levers M M are connected by a cross piece 0. EX- tending through the bracket arm J and the cross member 0 is a centering and limiting rod N, preferably anchored to one of said members, as for instance by the lock nuts E and engaged on one side only of the other member, as for instance by means of the limiting nut H; the effect being to permit the levers M to swing vertically upon their pivot I, relatively to the arm J. Surrounding the rod N, and seated against the members J and O is a compression spring D acting to force apart the members J and O to the extent permitted by the nut H. V The colterwheel L is journaled in the outer end of the lever M in the usual manner.
I claim A colter comprising a swivel member, a bracket mounted on said swivel member and extended on one side thereof to provide a horizontally extending spring-supporting arm and a colter supporting arm, a colter lever mounted to swing vertically on said colter supporting arm, and a spring confined between said colter lever and said spring supporting arm; said braiket being constructed in two parts carrying the respective arms which are perforated to receive the swivel member and rigidly connected to force them to move together.
