To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM McCAsLIN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Hopedale, county of Worcester, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Thread-Parting Mechanism for Looms, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawing, is a specification, like characters on the drawing representing like parts.
This invention relates to mechanism for partin the old filling end near the shuttle when filling is replenished in an automatic filling-replenishing loom of the feeler type, one form of mechanism of this character being shown in United States patent to Draper, No. 683,423, dated September 24, 1901. Therein the fixed and movable parting blades mounted on the shuttle-feeler, the blades bei opened by a suitable device when said; eeler is moved rearward to operative position, and said blades are closed by or throughthe agency of the lay as it moves forward on the My present invention has for its object the production of simple and efiectit'e means to assist in guiding or directing the filling end into position to be parted when the shuttlefeeler moves the parting device into operative position.

When the shuttlefeeler is moved to operative position so as to extend across the lay as in Figs. 1 and 3,

overcome this I mount upon the fe'eler a longitudinally slidable guide havin a flared or V-notched rear end to receive t end and guide it into the-notch 3 when said guide is operatively positioned. This is herein shown as a thin, flat, metal late 10, having a longitudinal slot 11 therein, Fig. 4:, extending from its rear end frontward, the rear end of the plate being widened somewhat, and provided with a ii-shaped notch, the divergent edges thereof constituting flaring jaws 12, 13. The opposed edges of the jaws meet the edges of the slot 11, as clearly shown in Fig.4.
To support the 'guide plate the feeler Y is longitudinally slotted at its upper and lower edges, at 14, 15, Fig. 5, leaving an elongated intermediate portion 16 which forms, a bearing for the plate. By reference to Fig. 4 it will be clear that the guide plate 10 can slide longitudinally upon this hearing 16 and within the slot-s14 and 15', the front end of said bearing or abutment-to limit rearward movement of said plate. A small rod 17 fixed to the plate; extends frontward loosely through a guide bearing 18 on the arm Y, and a projecting spring 19 is-coiled about the rod between said bearing and the plate, normally acting to project the acting as a stope filling guide I the spring guide plate rearward into the position shown in Figs. 1

Thus under normal conditions the jaws 12, 13 are retracted toward one close to the rear end of the shuttle- :teeler, and positively held. in such position by engagement of the detent with the stop 20, so that there is practically no rearward elongation oil the shuttledeeler at such time.
