WINDOW-SASH AND WEATHER-GUARD THEREFOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.

a citizen of the United States, and resident of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Sashes and VVeather-G'uards Therefor, of which the following is a specification, and which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming apart thereof. The invention is shown as applied to a double sash car window, though it is applicable to windows used in connection-with other structures.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and eificient weather guard for window sashes, and an exemplification of it is hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 1s a detail plan section of a pair of window sashes and a window casing; Fig. 2 is a detail in perspective of the spring portion of the weather guard; Fig. 3 is a detail in perspective of a carrying strip for the weather guard and which forms the edge of the sash; and Fig. 4 is a detail in perspective of a covering plate for the spring element of the weather guard.
The window casing is represented at 10 and as being provided with an adjustable stile plate 11 carried by the screws 12, 13. The stops which provide the channels within which the sashes run are represented at 14, 15, 16, and are three in number because of the presence of two sashes 17, 18, the one being the outer and the other the inner sash of a double sash window. .tween the side plates of the sash rail,.there' is secured a vertically disposed channel bar 19, having its channel outwardly directed. Within this channel there is fitted the filler or edge strip 20, preferably of wood, and which is rabbeted at its inner corners, as shown at 21, 22, to fit within the channel bar 19, to which it is secured by means of screws, as 23.
A U-shaped spring metal plate 24 is secured to the outer face of the strip 20 by. any suitable means, such as screws, its side flanges 25, 26, extending backwardly and flaring outwardl from the strip 20, and are adapted to frictlonally engage the stops, as 14, 15. The cover plate 27 is of sheet metal and is bent so as to fit between the outer face of the strip 20 and the channel bar 19, its marginal portions 28, 29, extending beyond the side faces of the sash rail, their edges being recurved toward the edge of the sash, as shown at 30, 31, and overhanging the outer edges of the flanges 25, 26, thereby preventing the entrance of moisture or dust which might accumulate between these flanges and the strip 20.
I claim as my invention-- 1. In a window sash and weather guard therefor, in combination, a channeled rail comprising a body portion and an edge strip secured thereto, a U-shaped sprin metal plate secured to the edge face of t e sash rail, its inner portions extending backwarclly and flaring outwardly, and a cover plate secured between the two sections of the rail and extending beyond the side faces thereof and being recurved to cover the edges of the wings of the spring metal plate.
2. A sash rail comprising a body portion having its edge face channeled, and an edge strip rabbeted to enter the channel of the body portion and being-secured to the latter, a U-shaped spring metal late secured to the edge face of the sash rail: its inner portions extending backwardly and flaring outwardly, and a cover plate secured between the two sections of the rail and extending beyond the side faces thereof and being recurved to cover the edges of the wings of the spring metal plate.
