DISPLAY DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 30, 1912.
Original application lcd July 15, 1910, Serial No. 572,112. Divided and this application filed February 6,
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, HENRY IV. KNAUTZ, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, count,v of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to displaying devices employed especially in the displaying of cloth samples or other articles which may be conveniently mounted upon cards for displaying; the present application being a division of my application Serial No. 572,112, filed July 15th, 1910.
The objectof this invention and as understood in the above mentioned application is to provide a display device of the character described which will be of improved construction and efhcient in use.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
With these objects in view my invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed. v
My invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which,
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a display device embodying my invention, the same being shown in folded posit-ion, Fig. 2 is a partial sectional side elevation thereof, Fig. 3 is a plan view of one of the sections of the device extended, and Fig. 4.- is a section taken on line aeof Fig. 3.
Referring now to the drawing 1 indicates the cards upon which may be arranged the samples or other articles to be displayed. Said cards are preferably of rectangular form and of equal dimensions, the opposing lateral edges thereof being formed with transversely alining notches 2 and 2 which are equally spaced from the adjacent transverse edges of said cards. Secured to and projecting from corresponding ends 3 of said cards 1 are flexible strips 4L preferably formed of a suitable fabric. To the outer extremities of said strips are secured comparatively narrow rigid strips 5 of a length equal substantially to the width of the cards 1; the arrangement being such that the adjacent edges of said strips and said cards will be displayed in close proximity, a hinged connection between said cards and strips being thus effected. The strips 1, as
Serial No. 606,816.
will be observed, are of a length slightly less than the width of the cards 1, so that the outer ends of the end portion 3 of said cards will be free. At the extremities of each of the strips 5 are provided inwardly opening pockets 6 formed preferably of fabric, said pockets being adapt-ed to receive the lateral edges of the end portions 2 or 3 of the cards l, it being asis understood, necessary to buckle the latter in order to reduce the width thereof so as to permit of the insert-ion of the ends thereof into said pockets. The notches 2 and 2, as will be observed, afford clearance for the inner end wall of the pockets 6 in insertion of the card edges into t-he latter and the provision of notches at each end of the cards, permits of the cards being arranged in a continuous strip or in Zig-zag form. llith this arrangement it will be seen that the strips 5 may be folded back upon the cards 1 and the ends 8 of the latter connectto thestrips 5 to effect the bending of said cards together in bool; form as clearly shown in Fig. 2. Or said strips may be extended as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 and said cards attached end to end, that is with their opposite ends 7 engaging the strips 5 to form one continuous band. Further, with this arrangement, itwill be seen that any number of cards 1 bearing the samples or articles for display may be connected together, or readily disconnected when bound together. To the uppermost of the strips 5 is attached a plain card 1 similar to the cards 1 except that the frame is not provided with notches 2, said card 1 serving in t-he capacity of a cover.
While I have shown What I mean to be the preferred form of my display device I do not wish to be limited thereto as there might be various changes made in the details of construction and the arrangements of parts described without departing from the spirit of the invention as comprehended within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I deem as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A display device, comprising a plurality of detachable sections, each of said sections consisting of a display card adapted to carry the articles or samples for display; a flexible strip secured to one end of said card and projecting therefrom; a nar row rigid strip secured to the free end of said flexible strip; and. pockets provided at the end of rigid, strips of said sections adapted for detachable engagement by portions of the lateral edges of display cards, said cards being` provided with transversely alining notches in opposite edges near each end in order to permit of said engagement, substantially as described.
2. In a display device, comprising a plurality of detachable sections, each of said sections consisting of a display card to carry the articles or samples tor display, a 'flexible strip secured to one end oi said card and projecting therefrom; a narrow rigid strip secured to the free end of said flexible strip, said flexible strip being of snch dimensions as to canse Vthe card and rigid strip to lie closely adjacent each other; and having pockets provided at the ends of the rigid strips of said sections adapted for detachable engagementl by portions of the lateral edges oiC display cards, said cards being provided With transversely alining notches in each side near each end in order to permit of said engagement, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
HENRY lV. KNAUTZ.
