PLOW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 30, 1912'.
Application filed October 4, 1911. Serial No. 652,722.
citizen of the United States, residing at Macon, in the county of Bibb and State of Geor ia have invented certain new and use.
ful Improvements in Flows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to plows and while especially adapted for use in connection with double mold-board or middle-burster plows is not limited to such plow structure.
An object of the present invention is to provide improved means for readily attaching and detaching the plow bottom to and from the beam with which it is operated.
A further object of the invention is to provide in the frog of a plow improved means for connection with the beam and with a depth runner.
A further object of the invention is to provide a beam composed of double spaced bars with a spacing lug or block at their lower ends having a nose adapted to fit in a notch in the frog and to embrace a lug cast integral with the frog, said lug also serving to position the depth runner.
With these and other objects in view the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of a double mold-board plow embodying the present invention, showing one of the mold-boards broken away and removed. Fig. 2 is a view in vertical section substantially through the center of the plow bottom. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the lower extremity of the double beam showing the spacing lugand engaging nose. Fig. 4: is an inverted plan view of the frog and beam attached thereto, with the attaching lug broken away.
Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The frog 10 shown in the present invention is provided with a lug 11 upon its under side proportioned to be inserted between the spaced bars 12 and 13 of the double beam, illustrated at Fig. 1, and with a spacer block 14 rigidly secured between the extremities of such bars 12- and 13 of such thickness as to properly space the bars to embrace the lug 11 and provided with a nose 15.
The frog is provided with two notches, as shown particularly at Fig. 2, one of which receives the nose 15 of the spacer block and the other receives the extremity 16 of the depth runner 17, the depth runner being further secured to the extremity of the lug 11 as by bolts 18. So as not to throw the depth runner 17 off center, the lug 11 is preferably thrown oif center, as shown particularly at Fig. 4, and a rib 19 is provided which properly spaces the beam bars 12 and 13 relative to such lug, said beam being further secured to the frog by means of a bolt 20 which passes between the bars 12 and 13 and through the upper shank of the frog and is provided with a nut 21 and means for ready manipulation of such nut. To place the plow body in position upon the beam the depth runner 17 is removed, the lug 11 inserted between the bars 12 and 13, the nose 15 brought into position in the notch of the frog with the opposite side of the spacer block 14: bearing against the lug 11 and the bolt 20 put in position with the nut 21 placed thereon. The depth runner is now returned to its position by inserting the extremity 16 in the notch of the'frog and inserting the bolt 18. It will thus be apparent that the beam composed of the bars 12 and 18 may be readily employed for connection with a great variety of soil tilling implements provided with similar lugs 11 and ribs 19 which may be secured interchangeably to the lower extremity thereof and that as in the present case they may be readily changed by the ready re moval and replacing of the said tilling instruments.
I claim 1. In a plow, a frog, a beam composed of spaced bars, a lug carried by the frog proportioned to be inserted and embraced between the bars of the beam, a spacer block carried by the beam and provided with a nose proportioned to be inserted in a notch in the frog, and a bolt adapted to be inserted through the frog and between the beam bars.
2. In a plow, a frog, a lug extending downwardly from the .under side of the frog, a beam composed of spaced bars proportionedto embrace the lug, a spacer block carried rigidly by the extremities of the bars 'Gopies of this patent may be obtained for and having a block provided with a nose adapted to fill the space between the lug and shoulder and to engage the notch.
In testimony whereof I afix my signature in presence of tWo Witnesses.
