SYDNEY ALLEN CURBIN, OF BRISTOL, ENGLAND.
DUST-CAP FOB PNEUMATIC-TIRE VALVES.
Epecification of Letters Patent.
Patented. July so, 1912.
Applicatz'bn filed April 14, 1911. Serial No. 621,144.
To all t m it may concern Be it lmoivn that I. SYDNEY ALLEN Corr n subject of the King of England, reng at Br tol, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lloiving is a specification. when is for improvements in or :i i du t-caps "for pneumatic-tire l. j rer its ob ect to provide a can that can )9 more readily handled than t present in use and entirely covers and protects the whole of the in the combination of a socket or base to be permanently fixed in the v -rin1 and through which the valve can I, pass, and a cover formed of thin spun 2o materia' which can he sprung instead of screwed on to the socket onriibular base and which entirely incloses the Whole of the valve parts.
In the accompanving the base of the screw-thread is a shoulderedprnrtion a and at the other end of the socket is an annular recess ta This end of the iet moreover is split at .a into four parts. is cover 6 may also be formed from spun .terial, and is closed at one end and open the other. At apoint intermediate of its r, the cap 6 is formed with an annular depression to provide a locking complementary with the locking or of the tubular member Q. And ..-.tion of said new 5 leaves a ption "WHOSE marginal edge b? h the annular shoulder a when tor .lPneuin-atic-Tire Valves, of
for scrmving into the telly of the Wheel. At.
the cap is in applied position. The socket or tubular base being sufiiciently large to permit the valve to pass through it, need never be removed from the telly and the valve can be introduced or Withdrawn even when the cover Z) is in place. The cover, will be seen, snaps on to the socket instead of screwing on to it, the split end of the socket readily yielding for this purpose although being sufficiently stiff to retain the cap in place when the interior rib 7% has engaged the recess a It is to be understood that slight changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to Without sacrificing any of the advantages or departing from the spirit of the invention.
lVhat I claim" as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A dust cap for pneumatic tire valves comprising a tubular member having a screwthreaded portion, a split portion providing resilient segmental sections, and an annular shoulder located intermediate of said screwthreaded and split portions; said screwthreaded portion adapted to have engagement with the Wheel rim, and said split portion adapted to project therefrom and provided. with an annular recess forming a securing element; and a cap having a closed and an open end, and constructed with an intermediate annular recess providing'an internal securing element complementary to the securing element of the-tubular member, and leaving a projecting portion at t he open end; said cap adapted to fit over the split tubular portion and be held thereon through engagement of said securing elements, and the edge of said projecting portion of the cap adapted to engage with the annular collar of the tubular member, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my named to this specification in the presence of lIWO subscribing witnesses.
SYDNEY ALLEN CURRIN.
