MAGAZINE-FIREARM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 30, 1912.
Application filed April 29, 1912. Serial No. 693,946.
To all whom z't may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANKLINF. KNoUs,
a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Magazine- Firearms; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in-
Figure l a side view of a portion of a firearm constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 a transverse sectional view on the line a?) of Fig. 1.
This invention relates to an improvement in magazine firearms, and particularly to firearms having a tubular magazine arranged beneath the barrel, the object of the invention being to provide means at the rear end of the magazine tube to be engaged by the head of a cartridge shell so that but a single shell can be inserted into the magazine tube; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claim.
In carrying out my invention, I inserttwo screws or pins 2, 3, in opposite sides of the frame 4 the inner ends projecting into line with the magazine tube 5 which opens at the rear int-o the frame 4. The projection of these screws or studs is such as to permit the body 7 of the shell to freely pass between them and yet be engaged by the rim 8 of the shell and so that but a single shell can be inserted into the magazine tube. A firearm thus equipped with cartridge stops at the rear of the magazine makes the firearm a two-shot gun as it is capable of containing but two cartridges without reloading; namely, one shell in the barrel 9 and a second shell in the magazine tube.
I claim In a firearm, the combination with the frame and magazine tube thereof, of rigid stops entered through the sides of the frame in line within the rear end of the magazine, which stops are adapted to be engaged by the head of a cart-ridge shell whereby the introduction of more than one shell into the magazine tube is prevented.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANKLIN F. KNOUS. Witnesses:
