FEED-BAG.
1,633,705., Specification 0f Letters Patent Patented July 23, 1912.
/ Application led September 16, 1911. Serial No. 649,660.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, MII-ILJ KADANECZ, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feed-Bags, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to feed bags, and, the objects of my invention are, first, to provide a feed bag with an adjustable bottom plate whereby different quant-ities of feed can be placed in the bag; second, to furnish the bag with a novel mouthpiece that prevents the waste of feed due to a movement of the bag, and third, to provide a bag that is thoroughly ventilated, sanitary, ineXpensive to manufacture and highly eflicient for the purposes for which it is intended.
T attain the above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and refer'- ence will now be had to the drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the feed bag as applied to a horses head, Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view of the bag, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view of a portion of the same.
A bag in accordance with this invention comprises a flexible cylindrical casing 1, preferably made of strong and durable canvas. This casing has the upper end thereof gathered to provide a case 2 and in the case is located an elastic band 8. The upper end of the case is folded into the casing and stitched or otherwise connected, as at t to the casing to provide another case 5 in which is located a stiifening band or ring preferably made of metal. The band or ring 6 maintains the opening at the upper end of the casing 1, and the gathered end thereof provides a tapering mouthpiece within the casing that snugly engages the nose of a horses head 7. This mouthpiece prevents feed from being thrown from the upper end of the casing 1 and wasted.
The lower end of the casing 1 is provided with rows of circumferentially arranged sockets 8 into which can be sprung buttons 9, carried by the rim 10 of a bottom plate 11. The sockets 8 and the buttons 9 constitute clasps for adjustably holding the bottom plate 11, and the lower end of the casing 1 can be easily placed in engagement with the bottom plate, whereby said bottom plate will be supported within the lower end of the casing to retain various quantities of feed within the bag.
One of the side walls of the casing 1 is perforated, as at 12 and the perforated portion of said wall is reinforced by a piece of material 13 which is stitched or otherwise secured, as at 14 to the casing 1. The piece of material 13 has perforations 15 registering with the perforations 12 of the casing 1. lt is through the medium of the perforations 12 and 15 that the interior of the casing 1 is ventilated and maintained in a sanitary condition.
The bag can be suspended from the horses head 7 by straps 16 of a conventional form.
Vhat I claim is A feed bag comprising a flexible cylindrical casing having an open top and bottom, superposed rows of female coupling members permanently connected to said casing at the lower portion thereof and with each member of each row independent and spaced from the other, a circular bottom plate arranged within and surrounded by said casing and vertically adjustable independently of the casing, said plate provided with a depending flange formed with a plurality of openings, and male coupling members mounted in the openings of said flange and detachably engaging in said female coupling members whereby said bottom is detachably connected with the casing.
In testimony whereof I atx my signature in t-he presence of two witnesses.
