JOE DOMBROSKI, OF CHELSEA, MASSACHUSETTS.
FEED-BAG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 28, 1911.
Patented Feb. 20, 1912.
Serial No. 651,716.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Jon DOMBROSKI, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Chelsea, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feed-Bags, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to feed bags, and the primary object of my invention is to provide a feed bag with an adjustable neck that can be adjusted to snugly fit the nose of a horses head and prevent waste of feed should the horse shake the bag while feeding.
Another object of this invention is to provide a ventilated feed bag that is simple in construction, sanitary, and inexpensive to manufacture.
\Vith the above and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the feed bag as applied to a horses head, Fig. 2 is an enlarged horizontal sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional view of the feed bag.
A feed bag in accordance with this invention comprises a circular bottom plate 1 made of metal or wood, and tacked or otherwise secured, as at 2 to the bottom of the plate 1 are the lower edges of a cylindrical flexible casing 3, preferably made of canvas.
The upper end of the casing 3 is reduced and reenters the casing 3 to form a funnelshaped mouthpiece 4 and the lower end of this mouthpiece has a case 5 containing an elastic band 6. The case 5 is adapted to snugly engage the nose of a horse and prevent feed from being thrown out of the upper end of the casing 3.
The funnel-shaped mouthpiece 4 is maintained within the casing 3 by a ring or band 7 riveted or otherwise connected, as at 8 to the inner side of the casing 3. The band 7 has one end thereof longitudinally slotted,
as at 9 and the opposite end thereof provided with a rivet 10. The rivet 10 holds the end of the band in engagement with the casing 3, said rivet extending through the longitudinal slot 9 of the free end of the band and adjustably holding the free end of said band. The band can be adjusted to present a small or large opening at the upper end of the mouthpiece 4:, and when the opening is reduced in size, the casing 3 folds, as at 11.
One of the walls of the casing 3 is perforated, as at 12 and the perforated portion reinforced by a piece of leather or other durable material 13 that is stitched or otherwise connected, as at 141 to the inner side of the casing 3. The piece of leather 13 is perforated, as at 15 with the perforations registering with the perforations 12 of the casing 3.
Connected to diametrically opposed sides of the casing 3, at the upper end thereof, are head straps 16 having the ends thereof adjustably connected by a buckle 17 Associated with the head strap 16 is another head strap 18 and a throat strap 19. The throat strap is connected by a buckle 20- to a strap 21 that extends through a link 22 carried by one of the head straps 16. The strap 21 is connected to the head strap 18, and the opposite end of the throat strap 19 is similarly connected to the head straps 16 and 18. The straps 16, 18- and 19 serve functionally as a halter or harness for retaining the feed bag in posit-ion while it is in use.
WVhat I claim is A feed bag comprising a bottom plate, a cylindrical casing having its lower end secured thereto and provided near its top with a group of perforations, a perforated strip of leather secured to the inner face of said casing and reinforcing the perforated portion thereof, a funnel shaped mouth piece carried by the upper end of said casing and depending into the latter and terminating at a point above the lower end of said group of perforations, a spring band arranged within the casing at the up er end thereof and riveted thereto, one en of said band overlapping the other end, one of the ends of said band provided with a longitudinally extending slot, and a rivet extending In testimony whereof I afiix my signature through said casing and attached to the in the presence of two Witnesses. other end of said band and extending through said slot and constituting means JOE DOMBROSKI' for adjustably connecting the ends of the Vitnesses:
band together said band constituting means MAURICE GARo,
for contracting the top of the casing. M. MALINoWsKY.
