Description

2 ami e a AL-F ED no. MOORE, or LA; GRANGE, EXAS.
3 Letters liutent No. 103,355, dated May 5242, 187-0.
: rMPRovEMENT m ox-Bows.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all whomit may concern p Be it known that I, ALFRED L. D. MOORE, of La Grange, in the county of Fayette and State of Texas, have invented anew andnseful Improvement in Ox- Bows; and I do hereby declare that the following is'a full, clear, and yexact description thereof, which will enableothers skilled in tbeartto make and use the same, reference being bad to' the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to provide auoxbow which shall not require-bending, and which may be made in parts of the country where timber suitable for bcndingis scarce; and it consists of making the bow in sections, or partly of wood and partly of metal, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
The accompanying drawing represents a longitudiual section of anox-bow, constructed according to invention. 7 e \imilar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. V y 7 A is the lower 'portion'or neck-piece of the bow, which is made of metal or of any other suitable material, with socket holes init-s ends or with other provision forsupporting the straight portions or sides of v the bow. j
B 13 represents the sides or straight portions.
These side pieces B are secured in the curved part A, by means of the screw-pins O 'O, or in any other suitable manner.
The tenons E E may extend entirely through the curved or neck-piece A, or only part way through as may be desired. They may be connected with the outside of the neck-piece A, by means of bolts or rivets, in which case the socket holes will not be required. I y
The neck-piece A may be made either solid or hollow (aside from the socket holes above referred to,)
and of any form desired so long as the proper curve for the neck of the ox is secured. By this method of forming the bow of an ox-yoke,
almost any timber maybe used.
' The curved portion or ueck-piece A may be made of iron, (either cast or wrought,) or of any material suitable for the purpose. 1 a
' Having-thus described my invention,
' I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent- Oonst-ructing ox-bows in sections, partly of woodand partly of iron, or other suitable material, substan-- tiallyas herein shown and described.
AFRED L. D. MOORE.
