PIOTR PIOTROWSKI, F FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS.
- FEED-BAG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 23, 1912.
Application filed October 18, 1911. Serial No. 655,282.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, From PIOTROWSKI, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Fall River, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feed- Bags, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to feed bags, and the primary object of my invention is to provide a sanitary feed bag that can be easily suspended upon a horses head in a manner that will prevent the feed within the bag from being wasted.
Another object of this invention is to provide a ventilated feed bag that is simple in construction, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
WVith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the feed bag. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan of the same, and Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of a portion of the bag.
A- feed bag in accordance with this invention comprises a cylindrical flexible casing 1 and riveted or otherwise connected, as at 2 to the lower end of said casing is an outer ring 3 and an inner ring 1. Hinged or pivotally connected, as at 5 to the outer ring 3 is a bottom plate 6, said bottom plate being detachably connected to the ring 3 opposite the hinge thereof by a conventional form of clasp 7 The bottom plate can be provided with a pivoted hasp for engaging over a staple 8 and in said staple a pin or seal can be placed to retain the bottom plate in a closed position.
Adjacent to the upper end of the casing 1 there is a case 9 for a ring 10 and the upper end of said casing is gathered, as at 11 and provided with a case 12 for an elastic band or cord 13 adapted to hold the gathered end of the feed bag snugly upon the nose of a horse.
The front wall of the casing 1 has openings 14 and in these openings are arranged screens 15 preferably made of woven wire. The screens are retained within the openings 14 by circular frames 16 arranged upon both sides of the front wall, said frames being riveted or otherwise connected, to the casing, as at 17. The casing 1 at oppositely disposed sides of the ring 10 is provided with loops 18 and attached to said loops by links 19 are head straps 20 connected together by a buckle 21. Associated with the head straps 20 is a throat strap 22 and a front strap 23, said front strap having looped portions 24: to receive the straps 20 and 22. The straps 20 and 22 are coupled together, as at 25. The throat strap 22 is adapted to have the ends thereof connected by a buckle 26.
Attached to the gathered end 11 of the casing 1 are suspension straps 28 provided with hooks 29 and these hooks are adapted to engage in openings 80 in the straps 20. The suspension straps 28 maintain the gathered end 11 in an extended posit-ion upon the nose of a horse, preventing the gathered end from falling into the bag while the horse is obtaining feed from the same.
By opening the bottom plate 6 the interior of the bag can be thoroughly cleansed and during feeding sufficient air is admitted by the screens 15 to insure a proper ventilation of the bag.
The halter or head gear of the feed bag permits of the same being safely suspended from a horses head, andit is through the medium of the adjustable suspension straps 28 that the gathered end of the bag can be raised or lowered as occasion may demand.
What I claim is In a feed bag including a body portion having a closed bottom and an open top, said top being gathered and provided with an elastic cord, a vertically disposed suspension member having its ends attached to the body portion of the casing below the top thereof, said member having the sides thereof formed with a series of openings, suspension straps having their lower ends attached to the top of said casing and their upper ends provided with hooks for adjustahly engaging in the openings of the suspension member, a throat strap coupled to said suspension member and a front strap connected to said suspension member and to 10 said throat strap.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
PIOTR PIOTROVSKI.
"Witnesses FRANK E. CLIFTON, PATRICK E. MARMION.
