UNITED STATES PATENT orrron. I
MACK L. LOBENSTEIN, OF HOUSTON, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO T. L. WALTON, OF HOUSTON, TEXAS.
SHOW-CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 23, 1912.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MACK L. LOBENSTEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show-Gases, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in show cases.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described for the particular purpose of displaying cigars and other like articles for sale.
A further feature of the invention resides in the provision of a mechanism whereby the show case may be readily opened and closed and the articles to be sold thus exposed to the purchaser.
lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction and operation, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is an end view of the show case, Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view thereof.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures, the numeral 1 refers to the frame work of the show case proper having its sides and ends formed of glass or other transparent material. Suitable shelves 2 are arranged within the frame work dividing the show case proper into compartments for the storage of the articles to be sold. A suitable cash drawer 3 of any approved form, is arranged at the top of the show case proper and in the rear thereof, so as to slide out and in when a sale is made. The goods for im mediate sale are placed upon the top 4 of the show case proper and are protected by the stationary case 5 and the movable door (5. The case 5 is arranged upon the rear portion of the top of the show case proper and has a suitable top and ends and rear wall but its in shape, but having one side thereof arcuate and secured to the arcuate side thereof is a convex transparent glass 7 The apexes of the triangular ends of the door 6, opposite the arcuate sides thereof are pivotally connected to the respective sides of the frame work 1 and are provided with the respective, rigidly mounted friction wheels 8 which mesh with similar friction wheels 9 rigidly mounted on the shaft 10, which rotates in suitable bearings in the show case walls. Extending forwardly from the cash drawer 3 is a friction. member 11 whose upper side contacts with and operates the friction wheel 11 rigidly mounted on shaft 10. lVhen the cash drawer is withdrawn, or opened, rotation is imparted through friction wheel 11 and shaft 10 to the friction wheels 9 in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 1, and an opposite rotation is imparted to the friction wheel 8 as is also indicated by an arrow in Fig. 2, which in turn operates to revolve the door 6 about its pivotal supports and withdraw the same back into the casing 5 and thus expose the articles to be sold to the open.
lVhen the cash drawer is closed, the mechanism, just described, operates to close the door 6. Depending from the top 4 of the show case proper is a gong 12 and the member 11 carries a suitable hammer 13 which contacts with the gong as the cash drawer is opened, and which are provided for the purpose of giving the usual signal when a sale is made.
What I claim is A device of the character described, including a suitable casing having a section thereof hinged thereto, friction wheels secured to said hinge section, a transverse shaft operating in suitable hearings in the casing, friction wheels carried thereby, and operatively connected with the friction wheels carried by the hinged section, a sliding receptacle arranged in said show case, a friction wheel rigidly mounted on the shaft intermediate the ends thereof, a friction In testimony whereof I have signed my member carried by the sl ding receptacle name to this speolfieation 1n the presence of and having operative connection W1th said two subscribing Witnesses.
121st mentioned friction Wheel whereby a MACK L. LOBENSTEIN. movement of said sliding receptacle causes a Witnesses:
corresponding movement of said movable MAY MONTGOMERY,
section through said gear mechanism. F. W. KATOR.
