SOLDERING-IRON HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 23, 1912.
Application filed March 19, 1912. Serial No. 684,863.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH L. MAYHEW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oak Bluffs, in the county of Dukes and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soldering-Iron Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in holders for supporting a soldering-iron in position above the flame of a gasolene furnace in order to heat the iron, and the objects of the invention are to provide an adjustable attachment for supporting a soldering-iron, which attachment can be quickly secured to the rim of a gasolene furnace, and can be conveniently swung to one side when not needed, by removing one screw-bolt; to utilize two of the three side rods of a gasolene furnace, at points where the same are bolted to the top rim of the furnace, for the purpose of supporting an adjustable holder for a solderingiron; to provide a simple and eificient construction which is strong, durable and inexpensive, and to obtain other advantages and results as may be brought outin the following description.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in each of the several figures, Figure 1 illustrates in side elevation a gasolene furnace bearing my improved soldering-iron holder. Fig. 2 shows a plan view of the top rim of a gasolene furnace, with soldering-iron holder attached thereto. Fig. 8 shows an end elevation of the holder detached from the furnace. Fig. 4 shows a plan view of one of the lateral, angular brackets, forming a portion of the device. Fig. 5 shows a side view of the arm loop on which the shank of the soldering-iron rests when the appliance is attachedto a gasolene furnace.
In said drawings, 1 indicates a gasolene furnace, comprising a reservoir 2 for gasolene and air, a valve 3 for supplying gasolene to coil 4, a casing 5 to inclose generating coil 4, a stop cock or valve 6 by means of which air is pumped into reservoir 2,
Upon top rim 9 I have shown my improved soldering-iron holder. Said soldering-iron holder comprises two angular, lat eral brackets 10, 10 which are bolted to the top rim 9 of the gasolene furnace, as indicated in Fig. 2. Said brackets 10, 10 are bolted at 12, 12 to the top rim 9 sufficiently loose to permit said brackets to swing on their screw-bolts. Angular brackets 10, 10 are bolted at 13, 13 to connecting strip or crotch section 14 in such a manner that by means of slots in brackets at 16, 16 outward and inward adjustableness and lateral scope is secured, as indicated by dotted lines shown in Fig. 2. By means of this adjustable feature of the holder the head of any sized soldering-iron may be held in the flame of a gasolene furnace, irrespective of the position, as regards center, of generating coil 4. Connecting strip or crotch sec tion 14 is incurved to provide a seat for the shank of a soldering-iron. Under said connecting strip or crotch section 14, and fastened by screw-bolts at 13, 13 arm loop 15 projects, affording an outward support for the shank of a soldering-iron, as illustrated in Fig. 1.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an article of manufacture a solderingiron holder for attachment to gasolene furnaces, comprising two angular, iron brackets to adjust-ably engage rim of the furnace, a connecting strip or crotch section, adjustably connected with said brackets, and an arm loop, adjustably connected with said brackets and with said connecting strip or crotch section, said arm loop forming an outward holder or support for the shank of a soldering-iron.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH L. MAYHEW. Witnesses:
JAMEs D. MoQUAIo, GEORGE F. MOULTON.
