Specification of Letters Patent. Patented July 16, 1912.
,Application tiled December 23, 1911. Serial No. 667,551.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, MATEUSZ Srinmowroz, a subject ot the Czar of Russia, residing at Cicero, -in the county 'of Cook and State ot Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Tmprovements in Locks, of which the followingT is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in a combination lock .t'or doors, and it consists in certain peculiarities of the construction, novel arrangement, and operation 'of the various parts thereof, as will be hereinafter more fully setforth and specifically' claimed.
The principal object of the invention, is
to provide a lock which shall be simple and' lalso they Will be shielded from iuterterence or manipulation by children or mischievous persons.
Other objects and advantages of the in` vention will be. disclosed in the subjoined description and explanation.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which the invention pertains, to make and use the same, l will now proceed to describe it referring to the accompanying drawing' in which Figure l, is a view in side elevation of a port-ion of a door with a lock embodying the invention in place thereon` said view showing a portion of one olE the protecting Slides for the lock broken away in order to illustrate theindi catingv or combination rings of the lock. Fig. Q, is a vertical sectional view taken on line 2-2,'of Fig. 3. Fign. is a side view partly in section and partly in elevation ot` a portion ot the door showing' the lock and its frame located in a suit- -able1nortise therein, and illustrating the locking bolt projected. Fig. 4, is a face .view of one ot the disks of one of the indieatingl or combination rings ot' the loclQ-and r lug. 5, is au inner view of the other disk of one ot said rings.
- Like numerals of reference refer to corresponding parts vthroughout the different, vleWs of thedrawlng.
.The reference numeral 10, designates Va portion of n door which may be of the ordinary or any preferred construction, but has at one of its edges and at a suitable height therein so that the lock-may beconveniently reached. a mortise 11, in which is fitted the look casing l2. which, as shown, is rectangular in shape and has near its rear portion a transverse partition 13. which is provided with an opening` l-l, for the reception ot' one end oiE a split sleeve 15, and'the operation of a portion of the locking bolt 16, Which lockingr bolt is rectangular in cross section `and has on its upper edee a series of projections l?, as Well as a series ole recesses 18, located between said projections. The front part of the bolt 16, is adaptmlto be reciproeated through an opening 19. in the front part oi the casing" 12and the rear portion of the bolt '16, is reduced and adapted to operate in an opening;` 20, in the rear portion ot the. casing' '12, as Well as in an openingr 21, formed in the door 10,-so as to be in alinement with the opening 20, of the casing. The Inortise 11, in' the door l0. has an opening' 22, on each side of the door so that the indicating rings ot the lock may be seen and-` y reached from either side of tht` door. Each ot these 'openings may be closed by means of a slide 23, which are held for vertical movement by meansot guideways secured to each side of the door. `-urroundin;v the bolt 1G, and the grooved ysleeve or mem ber l5, are a number ol2 indicating rino-s each of which is designated as a ivhole vby the. reference numeral 25. and each oli .said rings consists otl three parts. lo-wit z n main disk 26-7 a supplemental disk 2T. and a character bearing band which surrounds said disks and hasan inwardly extended tlauL'e 29, interposed between the outer portion ot. the disks 26', and 2T, which may be secured together by nienns'ot small screws or rivets 30. Each of the main disks of each ot the rings 52o, is provided on its inner face with a circular recess St. and an opening' 32. (son Fig. 5) for the, rece tioh and operation ol the gromed member l5. and locking` bolt t6, respectively. As shown in Fig. 5, each of the disks 26, otl each otlthe rin'gs :25, is provided with a recess'f), of sullioienttsize to permit of the passage of the projections 17, on the locking bolt 16, when said recesses; are brought. into alinement, and when said bolt is ieciproeated. lach oi5r the disks Q7, tit each of the rings 25, is provided with an t te the' openingf-Qfin 'the disk- 26,', 'to whieh't'he Vfof.,v When-the other' diskfoan'b'e placed onseidl Orrin-ets. the ge Zot. theA "receive ai pnli; 115edfoizseeuringrthe flange 5 `the alphabet," the lrel'etivepositiensof 'which with'- respeet to theQreeesses' 33; :disks 26, may hebben edi-.by removing thepin 37,5-
