clear, and exact description of the invention,
such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to makeand use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in ring testing machines and more particularly to. such machines as shown in my co-pending index with means whereby. they amount of the ring removed to permit contraction and expansion of the-same without permanent change of form or set, may be indicated and to provide the device with various other new and useful features hereinafter omore fully, described and particularly pointed out in the claims,referencebeinghadto the accompanyingdrawings, in w ich:

The upper jaw on its movable end. carries a scalebeam 10 on which is a scale to indicate the stress in pounds upon the spring as it is deflected by a greater or less extent by adjustment of the weight 11 on the beam.
The outer end of this beam traverses a vertically disposed bar 12 and extending upper member about the axis of the bolt I and said member carries the, upper jaw 3 from the mid-position upward. On this bar is a scale 13 to indicate in inches and fractions the amount of movement away from each other of the severed ends of the ring anda downwardly extending scale 14 is also on this bar which indicates the inches and fractions of compression or approach of these ends and also indicates the lengthof the segment to be removed froma similar-ring "to provide for the stress indicated on the beam 10 when the gap in the ring is closed by compression.
Oppositely extended segments 15 are attached at the mid-position of the bar 13 and extend horizontally in opposite directions therefrom. On these segments are marked scales indicating the amount of torsional movement of the movable end of the ring to the right or left and serve to test the resilience under torsional stress before producing a permanent distortion or set of the ring.
What I claim is 1. A ring testing machine, comprising a fixed jaw, a movable jaw, means for pivoting said movable jaw to swing both vertiand horizontally, a beam attached to the movable end of said jaw at one end and horizontal and vertical scales. traversed. by the other end of said beamto indicate the extent of'distortion of the ring both diametricallyand laterally.

A ring testing machine, comprlslng a fixed jaw, a lever pivoted to the fixed aw to swin vertically, a movable jaw carried lever pivoted to swing horlzontally' thereon and swin 'ng vertically therewith, a scale beam attac ed to the movable jaw, a weight adjustable on the beam a counterbalance wei ht on the lever, indicating scales exten 'ng both vertically and hori zontally traversed by the end of the beam and means for attaching a divided ring to I the jaws.
3. A ring testing machine, comprising fixed semi-circular jaw, a lever pivoted to one end of the same to swing vertically, a
ball bearing mounted on the pivoted end of the lever, a counter-balance weight on the lever, a semi-circular movable jaw mounted on the ball bearing and swinging horizontally thereon and also swinging verticlosing movement of the ring and a horizontal scale also traversed by the end of the beam to indicate the amount of torsional distortion of the ring.
