Incandescent Lamps, of which the following is a SPBClfiCtLtlOIl;
My invention relates to incandescent gas lamps of the type using inver ed burners with incandescentmantles.
The objects thereof are to providea new and improved regulating valve by which the flow of gas to the burners is controlled and from which at the same time supplemental gas may be supplied to a pilot light having an independent gas supply whereby the latter may be made to flash just before the .main current of gas is turned on to the principal burner, and also to make a similar flash after the gas is turned off from said burners. I also provide a new and improved licad by which a quick supply of gas to the mantles may be had, thereby reducing the tendency to make explosive mixtures and cause the flame to flash back. A screen is also provided as a further protec .tion against flash back, the same being located outside of the body of the lamp and readily accessible for cleaning or change; and I provide a special mechanism whereby a single chain may be used to operate the device for turning the gas on and oil from the principal burner.
The principles of my invention are illus trated in the drawings, in which-- Figure 1 represents a vertical section of a lamp of the character described provided with my improvements; Fig. 2 shows a single chain pull with counter-weights for operating the principal valve; Fig. 3 is a section of Fig. 2 on the line 3 3; Fig. 4 is an enlarged section of Fig. 3 on the line l-i-, showing the controlling valve closed;

The door of said head having a conical upward projection as here inbefore described causes the volume of gas to be distributed quickly to the burner pipes 10 instead of being checked or backened by a chamber having a flat baseone much longer than that therein used as is the usual practice;

The screen being outside the lamp is not subjected to the heat thereof and it is not subject to carbonization or deter i oration thereby, When for any reason it is desirable to change the screen the slide is readily accessible, and when removed from the guideway's the screen can readily be replaced, even when the lamp is heated.
