Be it known that I, MIKE NEMES, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Fort Dodge, in the county of Webster and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lnsulators, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein tothe accompanying drawing. v v
This invention relates to insulators, and more particularly to that type used in connection with telegraph poles.
The primary object of my invention is to furnish an insulator with positive and reliable means, in a manner as will be hereinafter set forth, for clamping wires of various sizes to the insulator, in a manner that permits of the wires being readily removed.
A further object of this invention is to accomplish the above results by a mechanical construction that is simple, durable, and highly efficient for the purposes for which it is intended.
With the above. and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein V Figure l is a front elevation of an insulator in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the insulator, and Fig. t is a perspective view of'a detached clamping member.
An insulator in accordance with this invention comprises a body 1 made of porcelain, glass or other vitreous material having insulating properties. The lower end of the body 1 has a socket 2 adapted to receive the ordinary and well known type of pin used in connection with the cross arms of a telegraph pole.
The upper end of the body 1 is reduced, as at' 3 to provide a wire support a and a knob or rounded oii end 5. The wire support 4: has a transverse opening 6 and a longitudinal groove 7 said groove intersecting the opening 6. The groove 7 receives a wire or cable 8 and this wire or cable is adapted to be clamped into engagement with the sides of the knob 5.
Arranged within the opening 6 is a clamping member 9 having one end thereof screw threaded, as at 10 and the opposite end hook-shaped, as at 11. The hook-shaped end 11 of. the clamping member 9 has a socket 12 to receive the wire or cable 8, and the side of the knob 5 is provided with a recess 13, which provides clearance for the bill 14 of the hook 11. 5
Screwed upon the threaded end 10 of the clamping member 9, against the wire or cable support 4, is a winged thumb nut 15, said nut adjusting the member 9, whereby the hook-shaped end 11 thereof will clamp the wire or cable 8 within the groove 7. The groove 7 is of such a size that various sizes or gages of wire can be clamped in engagement with the insulator. The rounded end of the knob 5 facilitates placing a taut wire or cable in the groove 7.
It is thought that the utility of the insulator will be apparent without further descriptrated a preferred embodiment of the invention, 'it is to be understood that the structural elements thereof are susceptible to such variations as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1.
