Be it known that we, CHARLES G. BITTER, a citizen of, the United States. residing in Ludlow Kenton county, and State of Kern tuclq and JEROME J. itULL, acitizen of the United States, residing in Cincinnati. county of Hamilton," and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Grease-Cups, of which the tollowing is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, torn'iing part of this specification.
The purpose of our invention is to provide a grease cup for the lubrication of joints and bearings of jarring machinery, where the bearings do not require very much grease, and the cups are usually small, andthe object to do :11 a construction, in which in filling, the grease may be packed into both cup and cover, and in which a spring catch is employed secured to the cap, and engaging a slot in the base to preventthe cap from unscrewing withthe jarring of the machinery, the spring cat-ch being so conveniently arranged that the catch may be lifted to release the cap and permit its unscrewing, by the same movement of the thumb and finger, with which the knurled head of the cap is grasped for unscrewing.

Mounted inside the sleeve 6 is a plunger 7 towhich the stem 8 with knurled head 9, is attached. The stem of the plunger passes loosely through a slotted opening in the coma, and the plunger is normally held depressed by the coiled spring 10 hearing between the plunger 7 and the cap 5. Nhen the device is to be filled the plunger is raised as "shown in Fig. 3, and the pin 11 in the stem, is passed through the slot 12 in the cover, and the stem is then turned for the pin to engage the top surface of the cover, thus holding up the plunger. When the cup is in use the plunger is released and under tension of the spring 10 the plunger feeds the grease through. the passageway 4-.
In order that the cover may be prevented from working loose under the 'of the machinery, we provide the spring catch'13 secured to the cap 5 at 18. This catch is provided with a downwardly exof the cover a notch 15 in the cover, and into the slot 16 in the upper edge of the cup base. This catch is also provided with an upwardly projecting lip 17, so that the same movement the cover is grasped. to unscrew same, the catch "caii'he withdrawn to release the parts.
Having thus des ribed our invention what we claim as new and des re to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A grease cup provided with a base and a cap, each having side walls adapted to fit within each other with means to feed the lubricant from the cup, and the cap pro vided with an annular flange extending out over and covering the upper edge of the side wall of the base, said-flange provided with a notch. and the upper edge of the side wall of the base provided with a slot, and a catch mounted on the upper surface of the cap projecting through the notch to engage the slot and lock the cap to the base with means for releasing the catch simultaneously with the unscrewing of the cap.
2.
