I Application filed July 15,
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, WILLIAM Bannock, M. 13., C. M., Glasgow, a subject of. the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and a resident of Partickhill, in the cityand county of Glasgow,
from the depilated hides of animalsin a moist condition, ,with. or without prev ous treatment by washing for cleansing .purposes or by boiling in water or a dilute alkali or acid'such for example ascaiistic soda or hydrochloric acid to increase resiliency, and an outer envelop of waterproof material, such as rubber, gutta-percha, or the like adapted to prevent drying of the inner member. The inner member may either be held in tension being wound under tension upon itself or a nucleus after the manner of a golf-ball core, or may be held. in compression by the envelop which may be applied in the form of tensionallv wound strips or tapes or under pressure in a mold. v
Four examples of the carrying out of the invention are illustrated in section diagrammatically and to varying scales on an accompanying sheet of drawings.
In Figure 1 is illustrated a body in the form of a golf ball. and comprising the two essential elements of the inventiona core A forme l from the depilated hides of animals in a moist condition and an outer member or cover B of gutta-percha or like waterproof material serving to keep that core in its necessary moist condition and serving also as the usual outer cover of the ball.
" The core is preferably in compression as far as may be possible, but to obtain a greater degree of compression than is possible in this manner there may be applied as shown in Fig. 2'to the core A before" it is inclosed in the outer member or cover 13 a tensional winding C oftape or-the like.
Scotland, have invented a certain new and useful Core for Resilient the following is the 1911. Serial No. 638,652.
In Fig. 3 is shown a tire formed from the combined materials. I It comprises a core condition, a binder or wrapping. C of "canvas, tape, or the like,
thicknesses, and an outer member B of rub' condition.
tie and resilient plug or block for use as a cover or outer member B of wa-tcrproof material. In each of these examples the core tension.
' It is" clear I the form of the article producedbutjointly in the combination of materials composing it and in the maintained-moist condition of the inner, member, and it is to be understood that the examples illustrated are in no wise limitativeof the application of the invention1 or the purposes for which it may be use skin have been wound while damp into cores for golf balls, but so far as I am aware, such becomesubstantially dry before covering, whereby the advantage which I obtain is entirely lost. Y
What I claim is:
1. An elastic and resilient body comprising an inner member formed from the depi lated hides of animals in a moist conditic 1 member and ofa waterproof material con- 2. An elastic and resilient body comprisand wound under tension and an outer member inclosing' said inner member andof a waterproof material conserving thev moistness of the inner member.
3. An elastic and resilient body comprising an inner member formed from the depilated hides of animals ina moist condition. a compressing winding of flexible material thereupon 'and'an outer member inclosing both and of a waterproof material conserv- 4;. An elastic and resilient body compris PATENT orat on.

of circular section of the hide'in-a inoist.
hereshown in two T ber forming the tire tread and beads andalso maintaining the hide core A in a moist In Fig. 4 is shown a similarly formed elas- A may or may not be initially wound under buffer or the like. This comprises the core Y LA, a binding wrapping C thereupon and fa cores have been intentionally permitted to and an outer member inclosing said inner serving the moistness of the inner member.
ing an inner ,member formed from the depilatedhides of animals in a moist condition ing themoistness of the inner member. L n
ing an inner member formed from the g lated hides of animals in a and Wound under tension, winding of flexible material thereupon and an Outer member 'inclosing both and of a Waterproof material conserving the moistness of the inner member.
