Specification of Letters Patent.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, EDWARD D. Yna'r'rs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sanger, in the county of Denton and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Cultivatorfitandard, of which. the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to cultivator standards and consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter described and claimed. 7
The object of the invention is to provide a standard of simple structure which may be readily adjusted to pitch or position a cultivator shovel at a desired angle to the line of draft and at a desired angle with relation to the surface of the soil.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a side elevation of the cultivator standard. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view through the supporting block of the standard. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the standard.
The standard is adapted to be used in conjunction with a beam indicated at 1 in the drawings, and the standard mechanism includes a block 2 having an opening which snugly receives the beam 1, the said block being split at one side as indicated at 3 and having outstanding flanges 4 which are connected together by means of clamp bolts 5. ,Therefore it will be seen that when the bolts are tightened and the flanges 4: are drawn together the block 1 will be firmly clamped in adjusted position on the beam 1. A sleeve 6 is journaled for rotation in the block 1 and extends transversely with relation to the block 2. At one end of the sleeve 6 is provided a worm wheel 7 which meshes with a worm 8 journaled between lugs 9 located at one side of the block 2. The worm shaft 8 is provided with a projecting noncircular end to which a wrench or crank may be applied for the purpose of turning the said worm.
A bolt 11 is detachably located in the sleeve 6 and is restrained by any suitable means against independent rotary movement with relation to the sleeve but may rotate in unison with the same. A head 12 is formed at the outer end of the bolt 11 and is apertured at its upper and lower ends to receive a cultivator standard 13. The said standard 13 is slidably mounted with relation to the head 12. The head 12 at its forward and rear sides is vertically slotted as at l t and the said head is provided at its rear side and in the vicinity of its upper and lower ends with rearwardly disposed lugs 15.
A screw bolt 16 is ournaled in the lugs 15 and is provided at its uppermost portion with a head 17 which rests against the upper surface of the uppermost lug 15, the said bolt extending above the head into a noncircular extremity 18 to which a wrench or crank may be applied for the purpose of turning the bolt. A nut 19 is screwthreaded upon the lower portion of the bolt and when in position is adapted to prevent the bolt 16 from being detached. from the lugs 15. A split ring 20 is clamped in position upon the intermediate portion of the standard 13 by means of a bolt 21 which passes transversely through the lugs 22 formed at the 'ends of the opposite side portions of the ring. The lugs 22 project through the opening 14 at the forward side of the head 2 and the ring 20 is provided at its rear side with an eXserted-portion 23 which is provided with a threaded aperture 24: which engages the thread of the screw bolt 16. The ring 20 is located within the head 12 and when it is desired to give the standard 13 major vertical adjustment the clamp bolt 21 is loosened and the side portions of the ring 20 will spread sufiiciently so that the standard 13 may be slipped through the said ring.
When major adjustment has been attained the nut 21 is tightened whereby the intermediate portion of the standard 13 is firmly clamped between the opposite side portions of the split ring 20; To give the standard 13 minor vertical adjustment a wrench or crank is applied to the extremity 18 of the screw bolt 16 and the said screw is turned so that the ring 20 and the standard are moved vertically with relation to the head 12. To pitch the standard 13 at an angle with relation to the surface of the soil the worm 8 is rotated which in turn will rotate the sleeve 6 and the bolt 11. To dispose the plates or points carried by the standard 13 toward the right or the left the bolt 21 is loosened and the said standard 13 is turned upon its axis so that the plates have proper lateral facing or disposition.
What is claimed is 1. A standard structure comprising a supporting means, a bolt carried thereby and having a head provided with openings at its rear sides and apertures at its upper and lower ends, a standard slidably mounted in said apertures, a member adjustably mounted upon the standard and having an exserted portion which projects through one of the openings in the head, a screw bolt journaled upon the head and having its tread in engagement with a threaded aperture provided in the said exserted portion of the adjustable member.
2. A standard structure comprising a support, a bolt carried by the support and having a head which is provided at its forward and rear sides with openings and at its upper and lower ends with apertures, a standard slidably received within the apertures of the head, a split ring adjustably mounted upon the standard and located between the ends of the head and having lugs which project through the forward opening in the head, a clamping bolt securing said lugs together,
said ring having a rearwardly disposed eX- serted portion which extends through the opening at the rear side of the head and a screw bolt journaled upon the head and having its threads in engagement with a threaded perforation in said exserted portion of the ring.
