Specificaties. of Letters atent.
Application le etcc 6, 7192i. Serial No. $53,188.
To all aniram. it may concern:
Be it known' that l, HJALMAR Lordo-refr, a suhjectn the King ot Sweden, residing at 2l Birger-Jarlsgatan Stockholm, Sweden, have invented new and useful improvements' inlletric Heating- Devices `for Running Water, of which the rfollowing is a specication.
Electric heating,rv devices for running ivater4 are known, in which a controlling cock for the Water and an electric switch lare placed co-axially and connected togetherv in such a manner that the current through theheating elements is supplied or cut od simultaneously with the opening or closing of the cock. rlhe controlling cock, however, in the devices hitherto proposed, has been constructed in the torni of a congnion plug cock, which has certain disadvantages in this connection. ln the first place, in adjusting and grinding` the cock plug, a substantially large variation in its longitudinal position must he provided for, which makes it di iiicult 'to etfect a direct connection between the cock and the switch. Furthermore the frictional resistance oit'ered in the turning of thecock is always comparatively large, which is undesirable especially when it is connected to a switch with sudden interruption.
According to the present invention, the controlling device for the Water, instead of a plug cock', consists of a rotatable slide valve, which possesses none ot' tl'iedisadvantages enumerated above.
An embodiment ot the invention is illusirated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure l illustrates'a side-elevation o the device. Fig. 2 a .plan of name with parts of the switch removed, and Fig. 3 a horizontal section through the valve.
A Water or other liquid receptacle a, in which an electric heating apliaratus is iinmersed, is provided with a supply pipe e (tor instance a hose) and a discharge valve nl. The controlling member of the valve yaccording to the invention consists of a rotatable plane slider@ (Fig. 3) mounted on a vertical spindle f supporting also the *rota-- table contact-piece g of a siviteh (Fig. 2). @n the upper part oi the spindle is arranged va handle fr (Fig. i). The liked contacts 7c to engage. Bv this arrangement. the device can he so controlled as to deliver in a given .length 01"' time a predetermined larger or smaller quantity of Water at a'loiver or higher temperature. The valve of vCourse can, it desired, he arranged in the inlet as iveli as in the outlet conduit ot' the device.
The heating device, for facilitating its connect-i on to a water suppl;I pipe or the like and to the vessel tor receiving' the water..
can he made adjustable in the vertical direction with respectto its supporting` frame n hy means of a pinion 1) engaging a toothed rack oand rotatable h v ineansot a. crank handle 11. rllhe pinion may he locked in various positions hv means of a latch t engaginga toothed wheel s. The apparatus also may he permanently tit-ted in a vvater conduit.
Having nouv partieularlvv described the nature of my invention and the manner oi its operation, what i claim is:
.in electric heating devices for running' Water with means for siinultaneousl)Y controlling` the heating current and the flow ot Water, the combination oia rotatable switch, a rotatable plane slide valve, a toothed disk, a shaft, said switch, plane and disk being mounted on said shaft and spring-actuated latch engaging said disk.
in testimony whereof l have signed my naine to this specitication in the presence ot tivo suhscribing witnesses. ,l
Witnesses Britons hlonnrnnor, ADA genion.
