To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, HENRY W. S'rn'inrnr.- Mmnn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Linton, in the county of Greene and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Mold, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved mold more especially designed for making concrete fence posts and like articles, and arranged to allow convenient and secure removal of the post after being molded to permit immediate reusing of the mold for forming another post while the first one is setting.
For the purpose mentioned, use is made opened and closed, a drying board for de-` tachable connectionv with the open top of the mold body, means for raising the mold body, and means for turning it while in a raised position to bring the drying board underneath with a view to support the concrete posts on opening the sides of thefmold body. y
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding part-s in all the views.
Figure l is a plan view of the mold part of the drying board being broken out; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same; Fig. 3 is an end view of the same and showing the parts in position after the mold body is filled with concrete; Fig. 4 is a like view of the same with the parts in position after the mold body is raised; Fig. 5 is a similar view of the same with the parts in position after turning the mold body while in a raised position; Fig. 6 is a like view of the same showing the sides of the mold body open and the concrete post resting on the drying board, part of the mold body being shown in section; and Fig. 7 is a cross section of the mold body and part of the suppbrting frame.
On a suitably constructed main frame A are arranged bearings B in which is mounted to swing, a swing frame C provided with a pivoted handle D under the control of the operator for swinging the swing frame C from a normal, approximately horizontal position (see Fig. 3) into an uppermost position as shown in Fig. 4. A catch E is attached to the main frame A and isA the tension of the springs J2.
adapted to be engaged bythe handle D owing to the sidewise pivotal movement of the latter to hold the swing frame C temporarily in its uppermost or a raised position shown in Fig. 4.
Cn the swing frame C is journaled a shaft F carrying the mold body G, and on one end of the said shaft F is secured or formed a crank F adapted to be taken hold of by the operator for turning the shaft F and with it the mold body G to turn the latter upside down (see Fig. 5) at the time the swing frame C isheld looked in an uppermost position by thehandleDengaging the catch E (see Fig. 4). The crank F is normally locked in place on the swing frame C by a locking catch F2 fulcrumed on the bracket C forming part of the swing frame C.
The mold body G consists of a bottom G secured to the shaft F on which are also secured the ends or heads G2 of the mold body G. The sides G3 of the mold body are hinged or pivoted at their lower endsl at G4 on theshaft F so that the sides G3 can swing outward into an open position (see Fig. 6) or inward into a closed position as illustrated in Figs. 3, 4 and 7. When in a closed position, the sides G3 abut against the outer edges of the ends Vor heads G2, and the said sides G3 are held locked in a closed position by catches H pivoted on the ends or heads G2. The sides G3 are provided exteriorly with legs l adapted to rest on the vthe top open so that the concrete or other plastic material can be readily filled into the mold body G. A
Within the mold body G and adjacent the ends or heads G2 are arranged false heads J provided with longitudinally and outwardly extending pins J mounted to slide in the heads G2 of the mold body G. Springs J2 are coiled on the pins J and are fastened to the head G2 and J so as to normally hold the false heads J in an outermosti position. Cn the inner faces of the sides G3 of the mold body G are arranged beveled lugs K adapted to engage the outer faces of the false heads J on closing the said sides G3 so that the false heads J are moved inwardly toward each other against l When the sides G3 are closed, the false heads J are in their innermost position, thus gaging the length of the postto be made. lVhen the sides G3 of the mold body G are closed and the mold body is in normal position shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the concrete or other plastic material is filled into the mold body and leveled off at the top and then a drying board K, approximately of the size and shape of the open top of the mold body, is
placed on top of the concrete material con-l tained in the mold body. A locking cam L is then engaged at its ends with elongated slots il formed in brackets N attached to the sides G3 of the mold body, the said locking cam L serving to hold the drying board K in position on the top of the concrete material and the mold body G. The locking cam L is provided at one end' with a crank arm L for turning the cam L whenever it is desired to move the same into locking or unlocking position relative to" the drying board K. After the drying board K is placed in position and locked in place by the cam L, the operator takes hold of the handle D and presses the same downward with a view to swing the swing frame C into an uppermost position as shown in Fig. 4, the handle D then being engaged with the catch E to lock the swing frame C in place when in an uppermost position. The oper-` ator now unlocks the handle F of the shaft F by swinging the locking arm F2 out of engagement with the crank arm F, and then the operator turns the crank arm F so as to turn the mold body G into an upside down position as indicatedV in Fig. 5. W hen this has been done, the operator disengages the handle Dffrom the catch E to allow the swing frame C to swing downward until the drying board K rests on top of the main frame A as illustrated in Fig. 6. The operator now swings the catches H out of engagementwith the sides G3 of the mold body G and then swings Vthe sides G3 into an open position as indicated in Fig. 6, and in doing so, the lugs K disengage the false heads J to allow the retract-ing springs J 2 to draw the'said false heads J outward out of engagement with the ends of the fenceI post. The operator now takes hold of the handle D and swings the swing frame C upward to completely disengage the mold body G from the fence post which now rests on the drying board K, and the latter with the post thereon is removed from the main frame A and set up in a suitable place to allow theV concrete material forming the fence post to set and harden. After, this has been done, the several parts are returned to normal position, that is, the swing frame C is lowered, the mold body G is turned back into upright position, and the crank arm F is locked in place on the swing frames C, the Sides G3 yare closed and locked in place by the catches H to permit of refilling the mold body with another batch of.

From the foregoing, it will be seen that by the use of the mold, the fence post can be quickly molded, disconnected from the mold and removed for setting and drying to allow of immediately reusing the mold for forming another fence post while the first is drying.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
l. A mold comprising a mold body having sides adapted to be opened'and closed, a shaft on which the said mold body is mounted to turn with, provided with a crank at one end for turning the same, a swing frame on which the said mold shaft is journaled, a lever having a pivotal connection with said swing frame, latches with which said crank and lever engage, and a drying board for removable `engagement with the open top of the mold body.

lever having a pivotal connection with said swing frame whereby it may move laterally with respect thereto, a stationary latch with which said laterally movable lever may engage, a drying board for removable engage, ment with the open top of the mold body, and means for locking the mold body and said swing frame against relative movement during the swing of the latter, comprising a latch carriedby the swing frame and with which said shaft crank engages.
3. A mold comprising a mold body having sides adapted to be opened and closed, a shaft extending longitudinally beneath said moldvbody and beyond the ends'thereof, and to which said mold body is secured, said shaft being provided at one end with an eX- tending crank, a stationary frame, a U- shaped swing frame journaled on said stationary frame and having bearings at its ends throughwhich said shaft extends, a drying board for removable engagement with the open top of the mold body, a latch secured to the stationary frame, a handle for swinging said swing frame, said handle being pivotedy to said swing frame to move laterally with respect thereto, whereby it may engage said latch, and a latch carried by one of the extensions of said swing frame and adapted to removably engage said shaft crank.

A mold having a mold body comprising a bottom, sides hinged on the said bottom, ends Xed on the said bottom, locking means for locking the sides in closed position, beveled lugs carried by the said sides and movable end pieces having pins slidably engaging the said fixed ends and adapted to be engaged by the said lugs to move the end pieces inward toward each other and springs coiled about said pins and extending between the movable and fixed ends to move the Jformer toward the latter when the sides are moved to release the lugs therefrom.
5. A mold comprising a main frame, a swing frame ulerumed on the said main frame and having a pivoted laterally movable handle, a mold body having a bottom journaled on the said swing frame, the mold being `provided With ends Xed to the bot-v tom and sides hinged on the bottom, the sides being adapted to be looked to the said ends, legs held on the said sides and adapted to rest on the said main frame, a drying board for closing the open top of the mold body, means for detachably holding the said drying board in place on the mold body, a crank arm on the front of the said bottom to turn the mold body, a locking device on the swing frame for engagement With the said crank arm, and a retaining device on the said main frame for engagement by the:
