'ticular application to improved means for supporting the track or cable through a forest or wooded tract and governing the same over an undulating or hilly tract of ground. In the present instance, I will describe this apparatus as employed in logging operations in which the standing timber is employed as the support for a track or cable, thereby avoiding the expense, labor and time of building supports for the track or cable, an important saving in the logging industry being thus effected.
My invention consists in the construction combination and arrangement of parts set forth and falling within the scope of the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, like char-- acters of reference indicate like parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a side view of my invention in operation, carrying a log up a short and abrupt incline, Fig. 2 is an end View of the windlass showing the draft cable, Fig. 3 is a side view of the Windlass showing gearing of the main or power shaft to the four cable drums, Fig. 4: is an end View of the rack or cable support showing guide rollers, top, bottom and side for the draft cable; and

.Referring to the accompanying drawings, reference numeral 1 designates a substantially C-shaped bracket. As many of these bracket-s are employed as may be necessary and it is to be understood that they are supported from the standing timber by means of lower braces 2 which are spiked or otherwise secured at 3 to the standing timber or other supports indicated at 4.

The support 2 is pivotally connected at 5 to the bracket 1. The upper end of the bracket 1 is held in place by an adjustable support comprising a socket member (3 in which a bar-.7 is slidably disposed. A pin 8 is adapted to pass through socket member 6 at any one of the openings 9 inbar 7. The outer end of bar 7 is pivotally connected at 10 with an extension 11 of bracket 1. It is apparent that by virtue of this con struction, the inclination of bracket 1 may be varied at will so that if the tree or support for the bracket is not straight, or does not stand vertically, the bracket may be adjusted to bring it to an upright position. The upturned lower terminal of the bracket 1 supports afiXed track or cable 12 upon which a trolley comprising wheels 13, hangers 14 and bars 15 connecting said hangers, is mounted. Chains or other flexible members 16 depend from these hangers to engage the log or other load to be transported. The trolley is connected by means of links 18 with the traveling draft cable 19.
I have indicated in Fig. 3 a structure for imparting movement to the cable, comprising a frame 20, a power shaft 21, a large gear wheel 22 upon the power shaft 21, pinions 23 with which the gear wheel 22 meshes, shafts 24 upon which pinions 23 are mounted, and drums 25 upon shafts 24: over which drums the draft cable 19 travels. It is apparent that since draft cable 19 is connected by links 18 with the trolley, the movement of the draft cable will result in drawing the trolley along the track cable 12. To provide means for driving the draft cable over undulating ground, horizontal rollers 26 and 27 are mounted in bearings 28 and 29 of bracket 1, and a vertical roller 30 is mounted in bearings 31 of said bracket. To impart additional rigidity and strength to the structure, a chain 32 may be, if desired, connected to extension 11 and to a collar upon support 4.- after the bracket has been properly adjusted. I
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that simple and eiiicient means are herein provided for accomplishing the objects of the invention, but while the elements shown and described are well adapted to serve the purposes for which they are intended, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the precise construction set forth, but includes within its purview such changes as may be made within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what 'I claim is: j I
1. In a device of the character described, the combination with a fixed track cable, of a movable draft cable, a trolley mounted upon the track cable, connections between said trolley and the draft cable, a bracket by which the track cable is carried, a support pivotally connected to the lower portion of said bracket, anda longitudinally adjustable support, one end of which is pivotally connected to the upper portion of said bracket.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination with a bracket, of a fixed track cable supported by said bracket, a pair of substantially horizontal rollers located one at the top and the other at the bottom of said bracket, a vertical roller journaled adjacent the inner side of said bracket, and means for supporting said bracket.

In a device of the character described, the combination with a substantially C- shaped bracket member, of a fixed track cable supported by the lower terminal of said bracket member, and a pair of horizontally disposed rollers journaled upon said bracket member, one adjacent the top there.- of and the other adj acent the bottom thereof. 7 5. In a device of the character described,
the combination with a substantially C- shaped bracket member, of a fixed track cable supported, by the lower terminal of said bracket member, a pair of horizontally disposed rollers journaled upon said bracket member, one adjacent the top thereof and the other adjacent the bottom thereof, and a vertically disposed roller journaled upon said bracket member adjacent its inner side.
6. In a device of the character described, the combination with a substantially C- shaped bracket member, of a fixed track cable supported by the lower terminal of said bracket member, a pair of horizontally disposed rollers journaled upon said bracket member, one adjacent the top thereof and the other adjacent the bottom thereof, a fixed supporting member pivotally connected to the lower portion of the bracket, and a longitudinally adjustable supporting member pivotally connected to the upper portion of the bracket.
7. In a device of the character described, the combination with '7 a substantially C- shaped bracket member, of a fixed track cable supported by'the lower terminal of said bracket member, a pair of horizontally disposed rollers j ournaled 'upon said bracket member, one adjacent the top thereof and the other adjacent the bottom thereof, a fixed supporting. member pivotally connected to the lower portion of the bracket,- a longitudinally adjustable supporting member pivotally connected to the upper port-ion of the bracket, a trolley mounted upon the track cable, a draft cable traveling through the bracket and guided by said-rollers, and links connecting the draft cable with the trolley.
