T0 @Zt whom t may concern f Be it known that I FRANK MONTGOMERY a citizen of the United States, residing at Centralia, in the county of Lewis and State of llhishington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspended Railways for Carrying Logs, &c.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilledin the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My device relates to an elevated log railway system, and has asit's object an arrangement whereby logs can be conveniently and quickly carried to a desired point by an arrange-ment that is strong, durable, yet simple and cheap in its structure.
v7With these and other objects in view to be developed as the specification proceeds, I will now proceed to explain my invention in which preferred form is shown -in the drawings attached hereto.

Referring to Figs. 1 and 2 in the drawings 1 is my trestle structure comprising a pair of approximately vertical piles or upright supports 2 and 3 and a crown piece or cross beam il, said cross beam lying across the topmost ends of my uprights 2 and 3 and connecting them in pairs thereby.
Straddling the central portion of my cross beam 4lis a yoke member 5, said yoke mem# ber having a top portion 6 and two parallel side portions 7 and 8, thereby allowing the yoke 5 to neatly and snugly fit over the cross beam l. In each end of the yoke 5 I strike an aperture or bolt hole through which I run bolts in opposite directions, such as 9 and 10 in Fig. 1 of the drawings, these bolts being supported in the yoke member by means of ordinary nuts 11 and 12. These bolts support a single track member 13 running approximately through the central portion of said track member 13 as illustrated in Fig. 2 ofthe drawings, thereby letting room for my carriage device 14 to freely pass by, yet retaining track member against longitudinal displacement in either direction.

My carriage member 1li is composed of an approximately U shaped frame 15 having the usual cross piece and uprights 16 and 17, to the ends of which are attached spindles 18 and 19 respectively.
If desired, my carriage member lilcan be made of an open framework structure comprising in each instance a pair of upright bars :20 and 2l connected together from their top ends by cross member 22 and the spindles 23 and 24 can be mounted on each top corner or junction point as plainly shown in F ig. 1 of the drawings. Mounted upon my spindles 18 and 19, or 23 and 24C, are wheels 25 which are retained upon the. spindles in any preferred manner.
Mounted in my upright structure 16 and 17 as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings or by means of a member Q6 as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, I mount, by meansof suitable bearings 27 and 28, wheels 2.9. By this arrangement I have a device that will travel along the top` surface of my track member 13, yet prevent it from scraping against the track member by means of the wheels 29, which at the same time prevent lateral displacement of my carriage member 141-.
Attached to my carriage member 14 as at 30 in Fig. 1 of the drawings, is a hook member which is attached to my carriage member `14, .by means of bolts 31 and 32 or other suitable forms of fastening device. rlhese hooks are placed .in parallelism with each other and upon opposite sides of my carriage member. I mount in these parallel hooks carrying chains 33 which support my logs 3&1-, or other suitable freight or loads.
In the modification shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings I retain my pulleys or upright supports 2 and 3 as in Fig. 1 or 2 of the drawings, together with the cross beam 1, but in this modilication I use two yoke members 5 of the same construction as previously described, and from each yoke member by means of the bolt devices 9 and 1() I suspend track members 35 and 36, said 41 and 42 are my aXles 43 which have mounted on the ends thereof spindles 44 and 45 as shown in Fig. 3, and on each I mount in any preferred manner my wheels 46 and 47, these wheels reaching across the top surface of my track members 35 and 36 as shown. I also employ wheels 48 and 49 which are mounted the same as wheels 29 previously described, to retain my carriage member 39 from lateral displacement and from scraping the surface of my track members -35 and 36. I attach my hook members 50 and 51 and supporting chain 52 as described in my preferred form said members being referenced las 30 and 33, my chain 52 likewise, in this instance, supporting a log or other desired load 53. In Fig. 4 of my drawings I still show another modification. In this instance my track members 54 and 55 being laid across the top ends of my supports 2 and 3, thereby doing away with the cross beam l as in the other forms shown and illustrated, and across the top surface of my track members 54 `and 55 I lay rails 56 and 57 upon which are mounted to travel my carriage device 58, which in this instance is composed of the substantially U-shaped member having a cross beam 59 uprights 60 and 6l of the structure as previously shown, and in this instance, braced by means of a cross brace member 62. My axle 63 mounting the spindles 64 and 65 is the form as shown and described in Fig. 3 of the drawings. My wheels 66 and 67, however, in this form of my device have interior and exterior flanges 68 and 69,these flanges playing along the side surface of my-rails so that the said wheels will not roll oil the rails. vI also provide wheels 70 and 7l on my carriage member 58 to prevent lateral play or scraping of my track members 54 and 55. I also mount a plurality of hooks 7 2 which carry my supporting chains 73, the same as in the other forms of my invention, these chains supporting and carrying logs 74 or other desired form of loads.
In operation, my elevated track system is constructed fromthe logging camp and runs down the mountain or other elevation to the point where my logs are to be transhipped. I mount my logs on my device and allow gravity to transport them down the mountain or if desired can use any preferred form of motive power.
TVhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. An elevated track system comprising a plurality of upright supports, cross members uniting said supports in pairs, track members suspended from said cross members, said track 'members being supported from said cross members by means of a yoke and oppositely disposed connecting means to prevent longitudinal displacement, an approximately U-shaped carriage having upright sides mounting wheels thereupon and carried by said track members, and means to support a load from said carriage member.
2. An elevated track system comprising, upright frame members, longitudinal track members supported from said upright meinbers said supporting means consisting of a yoke member having angular ends with apertures therethrough, and obliquely running and oppositely disposed bolts ruiming in said apertures and connected to said track members to prevent longitudinal movement, and a load carrying carriage operated on said track members, said load carrying carriage comprising an approximately U- shaped member, load supporting wheels mounted upon said U-shaped member and operating upon said tracks, and displacement wheels mounted in said U-shaped member, at right angles to and below the plane of said supporting wheels.
3. An elevated railway device comprising, elevated supports, yoke members having a cross section and two parallel sections at right angles thereto, adapted to seat over said elevated supports, oppositely disposed and approximately crossed supporting means mounted in the ends of said yoke member, a track member supported by said last mentioned means, and means to support a load and transport same over said track member.
