WATER-GOMMINGLING HEAD.

Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed February 9, 1912. Serial No. 676,613.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN J. TYNE, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water-Commingling Heads, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to hot and cold water commingling heads for bath tubs in which the commingling action takes place before a discharge is had into the tub. And the present improvement has for its object to provide a simple and efficient structural formation of a commingling head inwhich the commingling is'insured in a thorough manner, and with which ready connection is afforded for the branch hose or pipe by which the ordinary shower bath attachments of bath tubs are supplied, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1, is a detail end elevation of the present commingling head and its supply connections, a portion of a bath tub being shown in clotted lines. Fig. 2, is a detail longitudinal section on line w-m, Fig. 1, of an end portion of a bath tub with the present improvement in place. Fig. 3, is a detail section of the commingling head, on line 00--a2, Fig. 1.

Similar reference numerals indicate like parts in the several views.

Referring to the drawings, 1 represents the single piece main body of the commingling head, formed with an elongated horizontal commingling chamber 2, the various walls of which are integrally formed by the casing of said body as shown.

3 and it are inlet orifices formed in inturned necks 5 on the back wall 6 of the head 1, in adjacent relation to and communicating with the respective ends of the elongated horizontal chamber 2, aforesaid. Said inlet orifices 3 and 4: are screw-threaded for the attachment of the hot and cold water supply pipes hereinafter described.

is a discharge neck integrally formed 011 the front wall 8 of the head 1 and located centrally thereon approximately equidistant between the aforesaid inlet orifices 3 and 4. Inthe present construction the discharge neck 7 is arranged in a plane forward of the main body 1 and depends a distance below the same so that whenthe commingling head is secured in place upon the inner face of a vertical wall of the bath tub, as shown in'Fig. 2, ample clearance will be provided at the rear of said neck, in the operation of coupling thereto the flexible hose of an ordinary shower bath attachment or the like. And with a view to facilitate said coupling operation the lower end of the discharge neck 7 will be exteriorly corrugated as shown.

9 and 10 are hot and cold water branch pipes passing through orifices formed therefor in a vertical wall of the bath tub and screwed into the screw-threaded necks 5 of the back Wall 6, of the head 1, before described.

11 and 12 are holding nuts screwing upon the branch pipes 9 and 10 and having bearing against the exterior of the vertical wall of the bath tub above mentioned, so that as said nuts are screwed to place the head 1 will be drawn tightly against the inner face of said wall and securely held in place.

13 and 14, are the vertically arranged main hot and cold water supply pipes, provided with individual controlling valves 15 and 16, the valve stems of which extend up through openings formed therefor in the top rim or roll of the bath tub so as to be convenient for operation. The pipes 13 and 1 1 are individually coupled to the branch pipes 9 and 10 aforesaid, by the usual coupling means, as illustrated in the drawings.

Having thus fully described my said in vention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

In a commingling head for bat-h tubs, a single piece head formed with an elongated horizontal chamber, a pair of inlet orifices in inturned necks on the rear wall of said chamber adjacent to the ends thereof, and a depending discharge neck arranged centrally of the head and in a plane forward of the main body of the head, a pair of branch supply pipes adapted to pass through orifices in a vertical wall of a bath tub and screwinto said orifices, and holding nuts mounted on said branch pipes, substantially as set forth.
