To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, MARION DUNAGIN, a citizen of the United States, residin at Waco, in the county of McLennan and tate of Texas, have invented a new and useful Mold, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in molds, the primary object of the invention being the provision of a novel form of mold and holding device for re taining longitudinally mold boards or plates in relative position during the placing of concrete in a plastic state therein and during the coalescence thereof.
A further object of the present invention is the provision of a novel supporting means adapted to retain the mold boards or plates in their relative vertical position and at the same time support the same so that they may be readily removed after the coalescence of the concrete body, by moving the same upwardly after having been moved slightly away from the. said cOncrete body.
To carry this invention into effect, a series of vertically disposed frame bars or posts are driven in the ground or are connected or projected from a supporting base or platform, the said bars being positioned to be placed exteriorly of the longitudinal mold boards, for constructing concrete pavement slabs, curbs or in the construction of walls, there being mounted upon said vertical bars for vertical movement an adjustable yoke, those at the corner bars being provided with a receptacle plate having a right angled terminal to co-act with the right angle termi nal of the opposed plate to assist in sealing the ends of the mold boards or plates, the intermediate devices being provided with receptacle plates for engaging the lower edge .of the longitudinal plates of the molds upon their outer face and inner face, the inner face plate terminating at a point below the upper edge of the respective mold plates so as not to mar the top face of the slab.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without de-- parting from the spirit of the invention.-

Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective View of one of the supporting devices for the end of the mold plate. Fig. 5 is a top plan view of the mold for forming pavement slabs. Fig. 6 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 7 is a section taken on line 7-7 of Fig. with the pavement slab within the mold. Fig. 8 is a detail perspective of one of the mold plate carrying devices.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the vertically disposed rectangular in cross section posts or bars, which are either driven in the ground at the desired place or carried by a platform which forms the bottom of the mold. Mounted for vertical sliding movement upon the respective posts is a yoke 2, provided with a set screw 3 adapted to pass therethrough to abut the i post and to abut, the outer face of the upstanding flange 5 of the mold plate carrying device, the rivets 4 securing the yoke to the flange 6 so that the said device is vertically adjustable to said'post.
The mold plate supporting device is provided with the shortbottom wall 5 and the inner flange 7, which terminates at a point below the upper edge of the flange 5, and which wit-h the flange 5 forms a receptacle for the longitudinal mold plate or board 8, and by means of the screw 3 limits the downward movement of the supporting device and consequently the mold plate or board 8. The form of supporting device as described is used upon the intermediate posts 1, but where the device is used upon the end posts in addition to the flanges 5 and 7 and the bottom wall 6, a right angled end plate 10 is provided, the same being secured in position by means of the yoke 2, rivets 4 and the set screw 3, so that the ends of the right angled plates 10 will overlap as clearly shown in Fig. 1, and thus with the vertical strip 9 which is placed to straddle the space between the mold boards 8 and abut the inner ends of said mold boards between the said plates 10, will provide an end closure for'the mold plates and provide a means or mold whereby a curbing or portion of a wall may be molded when the device is placed in position as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3. If so desired, the plates 10 may be provided with i which will permit the boards 8 a fastening means whereby the same may be held relatively to each other and prevent the bulging thereof due to the weight of the plastic material between the mold plates, but when the vertical plate 9 is employed this is deemed unnnecessary.
As shown in Figs. 5, 6 and 7, the mold plates 8 are of lesser width than the mold plates 8 in the other views, and provide a receptacle shallower than the mold board plates and by reason of the transverse strips 12 and 13, respectively, a slab for pavement use may be molded in this form of mold, the devices which are constructed similarly to the device disposed intermediate of the plates in Figs. 1 and 2, being employed to hold the plates 8 in proper posit-ion and to the posts 1.
A As viewed in Fig. 7 the slab S is of suflicient height so as not to permit the flange 7 of the plate or mold board holding device to mar the upper face thereof, and when it is desired to remove the slab from the mold, it is simply necessary to loosen the screws 3 to be pulled outwardly away from the slab S with the flanges 7 and thereby release the slab so that the same may be lifted from the ground or the base of the mold when such base is used. By providing the screws 3 as indicated the same passing through the posts 1, and the yoke being of greater depth than the width of the posts 1, the said screws may be manipulated to move the plate 8 and 8 relat-ively to the material molded.
It is apparent that by this construction any form of wall, curbing or pavement slab may be formed, and that the same may be made in various shapes and sizes according to the requirements of the various municipalities.
hat is claimed is 1. A. mold for plastic material, having a plurality of vertically disposed posts alined in pairs, said posts being at the ends and intermediateof the length of the mold, parallel mold boards disposed between the posts, vertically slidable mold board carrying devices mounted upon the intermediate posts, and combined mold carrying devices and end mold plates mounted slidably upon the end posts, the alined pairs of said devices having their endmold forming plates overlapping to close the space betweenjhe mold boards.
2. The combination with longitudinally disposed and parallel mold boards, posts disposed eXterior of the ends thereof, of means for closing the space between the ends of the mold boards and supporting the mold boards, one means to each post, and each means comprising a yoke, a plate having an outer flange adapted to abut the outer face of its respective mold board, said plate hav ing formed integral therewith and at right angles thereto a flange adapted to project beyond the end of the mold board to span the space between said mold boards, the projecting ends of the respective plates overlapping to seal the end of the mold board, and means for securing said yoke to the corner post.
8. The combination with a longitudinally disposed and parallel mold board, posts disposed exterior of the ends thereof, of means for closing the space between the ends of the mold boards and supporting the mold boards, one means to each post, and each means comprising a yoke, a plate having an outer flange adapted to abut the outer face of its respective mold board, said plate having formed integral therewith and at right angles thereto a flange adapted to project beyond the end of the mold board to span the space between said mold boards, the-projecting ends of the respective plates overlapping to seal the end' of the mold boards, a vertically disposed plate abutting the ends of the respective mold boards between their ends and the inner face of the overlapping plates, and means for securing said yoke to their respective posts.
4. A mold board holding device compris ing a plate formed with two parallel and spaced flanges, one of said flanges being shorter than the other flange and providing a mold board receptacle, a yoke connected to the outer face of the long flange, a screw fitted in said yoke for locking the yoke at the desired adjustment, and a plate formed at right angles to one end of the longer flange and abutting the end of the shorter flange.
