'Ihe nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a metal hold-back to beattached to shafts of vehicles.
`In order to enable others skilledin the art to which my invention `appertains to make and use the same, Iwll now proceed to describe its construction and operation,'ret`erring to'the` annexed drawings, inl
which- Figure 1 is a'side -viewoi' ahorse, showing the application of my invention, and Figure 2 `is a lngitudiual vertical section of the holdbaek j y A represents Athe shaft of a vehicle, to the under side of which is secured a plate, B, by means of a From near the rear end ofthis plate, a hook, C,

projects downward and forward, said hook and plate Near the front end of the plate B, in a slot' in the saine, is pivoted a tongue, D, the lower. end of which is pressed against thelower tiont end of the hook C l by the following means:
In a recess in the upper side of the plate Bis placed 'a rod, a, having a shoulder or enlargement, b, at its vi'ont end, which bears against a projecting shoulder, 4
d, on the upper end of the tongue D.
' Aound'the rod a is aspiral spring, e, which presses the rod forward, keeping the tongue D pressed against the hook C, as shown in fig. 2.
The tongue D is readily lifted forward, and the breeehing-strap of the harness hooked in thc-hook C, n
and the tongue D closes, holdingit there.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire toseeurc by Iiet- The tongue D, provided with projection d, in co1nbination with rod d., spiral spring c, hook C, and plate B, all constructed and arranged to operate as and for the purpose described. j
